It's literally the middle of the night rn but I don't care I want to write about gays. Recommended music would be To Be Loved by Askjell and Aurora Aksnes.

Cold rain bombards my face, my clothes stained with mud. Mipha points to the left of the path, where there's a pine tree providing shelter for the two of us."Do you think the Guardian lost us?" she asks, glancing warily towards the cliff.
"If the broken bridge didn't stop it, the river should have. If it didn't, though - I don't know what could." I slump down onto the ground, exhausted. My legs and heart burn. "I'm sure we're safe, though."
She joins me, and we sit there in silence."I hope Hateno Village is alright."
I had taken Mipha to see some of the research results on Van Ruta at the tech lab when Guardians swarmed Fort Hateno just as we passed through. The prince had just turned 17, and I'd brought her with me to the quiet village to escape the festivities. But right when we left the fort, a battle started behind us. Guardians were climbing up the walls and being pushed back by the civilians. Someone shouted for me to run, to protect the Zora princess, so I did. We'd been safe, just past mount Lanayru when a stray Guardian caught sight of us and gave chase as we neared the cliffs to Zora's Domain."Maybe - maybe Robbie's arrows worked. Or the guards could have - well, I don't know, but they can't just be gone. They're Hyrule's last hope. Everyone's working so hard to keep going, and I still can't draw one damn sword-"
"Zelda! No, no, it's not you - she hasn't woken in thousands of years! She's taking her time, but I know it'll be you. You're kind, smart, loyal - a perfect wielder of the Master Sword."
"But, Mipha, we don't have time - the prince has already tapped into his sealing power, and I can't let him fight the Calamity on his own-"
Mipha sighs, shaking her head. "He understands. He's seen your struggles, seen your attempts to pull the sword - he should know better than anyone.
"And bedsides," she adds, turning away, "he has eyes only for you."
That catches me off guard.
"I - what?"
She turns back, a faint smile on her face. "I've seen how he looks at you. The wonder in his eyes, how he acts around you - how he always stands a bit straighter around you."
I feel - well, stunned? I don't know, but the idea of loving Link just feels confusing and strange.
Mipha says something under her breath that I don't hear.
"What?"
She flinches, glancing away. "I, uh, nothing!"
"Alright. I'm gonna get a quick look around, see how close we are to the domain." I push myself up on my arms, and try to contain the gasp of pain. Pretend I didn't say anything, brush it off as a cough-
Too late. Mipha noticed.
"Zelda! What is it, where is it, show me-"
I reluctantly hold out my arms, letting her yank up the sleeves of my coat.
"You said they healed!"
Small reddish-purple scars line the insides of my arms, from the last time I tried to pull the Master Sword a week ago.
"They had, I thought - Mipha, I'm fine-"
"No, you're not," she says, holding out a blue-glowing hand to one of my arms. The burning starts to fade a little.
"Why didn't you tell me before?"
"Guardian chasing us - didn't want to worry you," I reply.
Her eyes cross to mine, golden and shining. Beautiful, I think to myself, and then I tell myself to shut up.
"Well, I am worried! You work yourself too much, trying to fulfill your destiny, but you never give yourself a moment's rest. You cannot go on like this, Zelda, you'll work yourself to the death. And I couldn't - I couldn't bear it-"
She sniffs, and I realize the shine in her eyes is tears. "I can't bear seeing you hurt, Zelda, can't survive without you. And - and I really do l-"
"What? Mipha, what do you-"
She turns away again, and I can see red creeping up her cheeks.
"Link isn't the only one with eyes for you," she says quietly.
Oh.
Something stirs deep inside me, under my collarbone.
I feel it too.
"When she told me about Link, it felt wrong. But this - this feels-
"Mipha," I whisper, as she covers her face with her hands. But I stop her, take her hands in mine. Bring my mouth down to meet hers.
And she's perfect.
Her eyes shoot open and then flutter closed, and I can feel her lashes brush my cheek. A sigh escapes her as she twines her fingers tighter into my hair. She kisses me back, sharp teeth nipping gently at my lower lip, drawing a small gasp from me as I giggle and pull her closer.
Beautiful, beautiful, I know I'm saying it out loud and now I don't care. She absorbs every word, every breath, every movement of mine, and finally we break apart for lack of air.
Mipha starts apologizing rapidly, and it makes me laugh and take her into my lap. The rains don't seem cold anymore. With Mipha in my arms, pressed against my chest, Hyrule can wait. Right now, as the sun just starts to show its face over the cliffs, it's just the two of us.
