"I—you what?" Minji was baffled.

"Can I sit on your lap?" Hanni repeated the question, unbothered.

Minji was speechless; she didn't know what to say or do given that either a yes or no was probably the only answer she could utter.

"If it makes you uncomfortable, I'll sit on the ground instead." She shrugged, and Minji panicked.

"There's no room for mistakes—one wrong move and your scholarship will be ripped away." Mr. Hong's voice echoed inside her head.

Afraid of that ever happening, she immediately stood up from her chair and laughed nervously. "No, sit. I insist. Take my chair; I'll just get one from the storeroom down the hall," Minji said, urging Haerin to take a seat.

"I'll come with you then," Haerin demanded.

Minji raised her eyebrows. "But you'll miss half of the class," she worried.

"I've already missed a quarter of it anyway; besides, it'll help me be more familiar with the school," Haerin reasoned, and Minji sighed.

It seems like arguing with Haerin would turn out useless.

"Fine then," the older sighed.

They excused themselves from the class. Gladly, Ms. Im agreed.

They ventured into the corridor, but this time Minji didn't feel the need to explain the school's every single detail to Haerin.

Instead, she let Haerin explore every feature NJBN had to offer.

"We're here," Minji mumbled, opening the door.

She turned the lights on, lighting up the room in the blink of an eye.

Haerin was amused—even the store room was well decorated. "The room looks nice," she complimented, making Minji feel proud.

"The Student Body Council makes it their responsibility to furnish every room in this school using the money they earn from events," she explained.

Haerin hummed. "That's one way to be resourceful. It teaches the students to take action too," she concluded.

Minji smiled at her before looking for a chair in the vast room.

"Are you a member of the Student Body Council?" Haerin asked curiously.

Haerin was beginning to talk frequently now and Minji smiled because of it.

"Nope, but my friends are," Minji said as she struggled to get a chair from the stack.

"Hm? Why not? You seem fit to lead," the brunette pondered.

Minji giggled. "Thanks for the compliment."

"I'm just saying what most people would have." Haerin shrugged and started roaming around the room.

"I'd rather stay as the class president; I don't quite see myself handling such responsibilities since I plan to keep my grades unfaltering," Minji answered, and she sighed happily when she managed to get a chair.

Haerin nodded understandingly.

"Let's go back, yeah?"

"Sure"

"Trigonometric functions; anyone remember sine? Cosine, tangent, cotangent, secant, and cosecant?" Ms. Im asked.
