                         Chapter 1

                      The tragedy

12 July 1930

Liam Haven was twelve when the biggest tragedy in his life happened. His family was murdered brutally. His father, a man who worked day and night to pay his children's school fees, was killed just the day before his daughter was supposed to go to school for the very first time. His mother, a woman who would do all the house chores and would even work in other people's houses just to manage money, was stabbed twice. Liam's sister and Liam himself were the only people who survived. Liam took his four-year-old sister in his arms and ran. He ran as fast as he could. He ran to the nearest railway station and got on the train, which was about to start. None of them knew where they were going, all they knew was that they had to go. They had to RUN. It was the middle of the night when the tragedy happened.

It was five in the morning when the train reached its destination. Liam took his sister in his arms and went out. Just as the door opened, Liam stood there, observing, "Where are we?" asked his sister, even though she was just four years old and could speak clearly. "We're in the capital," said Liam. "I know where we are going to stay," continued Liam. He came to the capital six months ago with his father, and they stayed at his long-distant relative's place. John Morgan, a man who works for the royal palace as a servant, did not live far away from the station.

Right now, Liam had just one choice,a choice to go and beg John to feed him and take him in. Because At the end of the day, Liam was just a kid, an angel who had to witness his parents getting stabbed in front of his eyes. Liam went directly to John's house and rang the bell. He was afraid that the other side might not answer, but soon after a maid opened the door, she was shocked when she saw Liam, who had his clothes soaked in what seemed like blood, holding a sleeping child in his arms. "How may I help you?" said the maid while hesitating. "Uhh, I want to see John Morgan, the owner of this house," said Liam with his voice almost trembling. "A-alright," said the maid, and she went inside.

It was taking a lot of time for John to come.Liam almost thought that he wasn't going to come, but then the gate opened, revealing a bulky, fair man who seemed to be in his Fortis, his black hair almost getting in his gray eyes, wearing sleepwear. Observing Liam while frowning, Liam knew that John was frowning at the condition Liam was in. "You're the son of Henry Haven, aren't you?" asked John. "Yes," Liam said while biting his lower lip. "Why are you here, and like THIS?" said John, but then it hit John that he hadn't even called Liam inside and started questioning Liam on the door. "Before answering all this, come inside and put your sister on the cough." Just as Liam got in, he observed the surroundings. It was just like he remembered it to be,the minty smell surrounding the house. Liam's sister was awake by then, and John gave both of the kids something to wear.

After they both changed, John could see Liam's sister whispering something to Liam. "What's up, little princess?" asked John with a wide smile on his face, but Liam's sister was not ready for that. She hid behind Liam in order to seek protection. "Uhh, she's hungry," said Liam to John while being a little hesitant, which didn't go unnoticed by John. "Why are you hesitating? Feel free to ask for anything you need. Oh, and Liam." Looking at Liam in the eyes, John continued, "We've got something to discuss after breakfast.".

Soon, breakfast was served. It was bread with honey and sweet potatoes. Liam could see his sister smiling widely since the breakfast had her favorite sweet potatoes. Just then, John asked, "What is your name, little princess?" Liam's sister was shocked at the sudden question John just asked her. Gathering courage, she said, "Zoey." "A cute name for a cute princess," said John. One could tell how much John loves kids just by looking at him talk to Zoey. The rest of the breakfast went silently. After the breakfast, John sent Zoey to his daughter so they could both play together. John had a five-year-old daughter whose name was Aliz, and just like her name, Aliz was the sweetest girl one could ever see.

John took Liam with him into his room to hear the explanation. Liam silently followed John. "Now, explain what this all is about!" Said John with a serious voice, "They are no more.". This was all Liam could say before breaking into tears. "They are no more. My parents, they are dead," Liam said while crying, leaving John in utter shock. There were a few minutes of silence. In that time, Liam tried to control his sobs and said, "Last night, some people came and killed them both. Me and Zoey somehow managed to run and escape. I don't know what I'm supposed to do, uncle." Liam got on his knees and begged, "Please, please help us. I beg you. I'll do whatever you ask for. Just please take me in until I'm strong enough to stand on my own." John was still in shock. He had so many questions to ask, but his words got stuck in his throat. So before asking anything else, John went toward Liam and hugged that child. "It's okay, you've got me by your side... I'll help you with whatever you ask me for. Just don't cry," said John. After all, John's nature was just opposite of his looks; he looked bold, sharp, rude, and cold, but in real life, he was nothing less than a sweetheart, a soft-hearted man with another level of affection for kids. After consoling Liam, John sent Liam and Zoey to the guest room for rest, and he took leave from work just so he could investigate a little bit about Liam's parents case. Liam knew what John was up to and didn't bother to say anything since he also wanted his questions to be answered.

It was mid-day. Liam had just been lying in bed since morning. There was just one thing on his mind. Who were they?, and how's he gonna take revenge when he doesn't even know who they were?. Liam was filled with agony. He was terrified, but that kid had already made up his mind that he could do it and that he would do it.

A knock on the door of the guest room could be heard. Liam got up, opened the door, and saw Aliz standing there. Aliz was not chubby like Zoey but was rather fragile, but the cuteness they both held was almost equal. Aliz's hair color was black, just like his father, while Zoey had brown hair. Both of their eye colors were the same: honey brown. "Hi," said Aliz while smiling cutely. "Hey, are you here to meet Zoey?" asked Liam while smiling back at her. "Yes," replied Aliz as she went inside to play with Zoey. Zoey was smiling, but no one knew what she felt inside. Zoey might just be 4 years old, but she was smart enough to understand everything, and even Liam knew that. She knew her parents were murdered. She knows everything. Even the things that nobody knows.
