-- SPECNE, JUNIOR YEAR --
-- FLASHBACK --"Can you help me with my math homework once we finish hanging up your homecoming court posters?" I asked as I ripped myself a piece of tape.
"Are you incapable of doing a single worksheet yourself? This is, like, the third day in a row that you've asked," Leighton rolled her eyes, leaning against a row of lockers as she watched me tape up another one of her posters.
"Well, it is a good excuse to get you into my bedroom," I replied in a teasing tone, which resulted in a blush taking over Leighton's face.
She glanced over her shoulder so quickly I hardly noticed, ensuring that no one else was in the hallway. "As lovely as that sounds, I already told Nate we'd go to his friend's party tonight."
"Oh, come on," I huffed a sigh, shooting her a look. "Can't you go one weekend without a party full of the fakest people I've ever met?"
"Come on, Mads. They're not that bad!"
"Oh, they so are. Besides! We all know you'd rather be doing my math."
The blonde let out a small laugh, shaking her head. "Oh, I so would. If I could get out of it I totally would."
"Just tell him you've got, like, the flu or something! Pleaaaaase?" I turned to face her, giving her my best puppy dog eyes.
She placed a hand on my waist, giving me a kiss on the top of my head. "Sorry, Mads. He's already mad at me for bailing last week."
I sighed, placing my head on her shoulder for a moment as she ran a hand through my hair.
"You could just dump him, you know," I suggested.
"I would if I could, Mads. I promise I will, soon enough," She replied.
"I know! And he was totally just saying it because you were there!" Someone's voice exclaimed, echoing down the hall. At the sound of it, Leighton pulled away from me, and turned to fix one of her posters.
"Oh, hey, Leight," The voice said as it rounded the corner and spotted her. "And Madison."
"Hi, Esme," The blonde replied with a fake smile. "And Francesca."
"Do you need a ride to the party tonight?" Francesca asked Leighton, admiring the poster that I'd hung up.
"No, thanks," Leighton shook her head. "Nate's driving me."
"Oh, alright. Are you going, Madison?"
I shook my head, staring down at the tape. "No, not tonight."
Leighton thought it was too suspicious if we were at the same events.
"Oh. Too bad!" Francesca smirked in Esme's direction. "Well, we'll see you later, Leight."
"Yeah. Toodles!" Esme waved before continuing on down the hall.
"Assholes," I mumbled once they were out of earshot.
"Yeah," Leighton agreed, giving me a sorry look.
"Well, text me after you get sick of them tonight," I offered, as I finished taping up the final poster.
Leighton nodded, giving me a kiss on the cheek as a goodbye. "Will do. Don't finish all that math without me."
