|word| = mental conversations on Lionel's end

^word^ = mental conversation on Jake's end.

The next day I'm driving down to the homeless shelter that I was told to help out with for my community service credit. Once I park my truck, I having decided not to take my bike, I get out and head over to an official looking person who's waiting outside I saying kindly. "Hi I'm Kim Lionel. I'm here for my community service." He looks me over with a weird look on his face but says simply. "Follow me." I nod and follow him inside he pointing out a large area with magazines and books. "I'm Mr Wong and this is the living room area where some of the people will come to hang out." He then leads me to the back where some rooms are I being lead towards one. "You'll mostly just cook and clean up the rooms. All of the people are harmless but there are a few with mental health issues." I slowly nod as he leads me into a room there a guy around my age with dark blue hair sitting on a cot seeming to be writing something. "Parker! Say hello to your new head of the shelter." He lifts his head up and seems to stare into my soul before he looks at the older man beside me. "Let me guess he's forced to be here. He won't stick around so you might as well get someone else lined up." I frown slightly feeling a little bad but also uncomfortable because I see the hatred in the young man's eyes. "Parker be nice. He seems like a decent person." Parker looks between us with a raised eyebrow before saying firmly. "I want to speak to him alone." Mr Wong looks hesitant but I just smile reassuringly at the man he slowly leaving the room and shuts the door. I then turn to Parker curiously he saying simply. "I'm Kang Parker and I'd stay away from Wong. He tends to get handsy and flirty." I frown slightly at that. "Thanks for the warning. No offense but what are you doing here? You look really put together." He raises an eyebrow at me. "Well looks can be deceiving can't they? I have an anxiety disorder where if I get too overwhelmed emotionally I pass out and I can't hold down a job because I'm seen as a safety risk. And I'm an orphan so I don't get family support." I blink in surprise. "Oh. I'm sorry." He rolls his eyes and turns away from me I curious when I see a snowflake tattoo on his neck. "That's a cool tattoo." His lips actually twitch up into a little smile. "Thanks. It's my soulmate tell. My soulmate has a matching one." I nod then look at all the papers spread out on the cot. "What are you doing?" He seems to pause and hesitates before saying simply. "I'm writing a book." I blink having not expected that. "That's really cool. Do you plan on publishing it?" He shrugs a little. "Maybe. I'm not sure yet." I nod and he changes the subject. "You should go get started on lunch the others will be home soon." I blink but nod and leave the room I heading to find the kitchen where I immediately start cooking thinking to myself. |I feel bad about working here now.| Suddenly Jake surprises me by answering in my head. ^What's going on?^ I sigh and explain everything about coming to work for the shelter and meeting Parker and his rude cold attitude. Jake tells me to just be patient and I agree when suddenly he asks a little sheepishly. ^Would you like to go on a date tonight?^ I blush but agree shyly and he asks me to send my address later I telling him that I will and then go back to focusing on the food. I make a very large amount before setting plates and bowls of food on the table a bunch of people piling in and I look around for Parker not seeing him. Frowning I grab a plate of food and head to the room from earlier I seeing him writing obsessively I clearing my throat. "Parker it's lunch time you need to eat." He immediately says in a cold voice. "Later hyung I need to finish these chapters." I frown before stepping forward setting the plate on the table beside the cot. "Here so you can eat it later." He nods in appreciation not looking up and I sigh before leaving the room and start cleaning up until it gets later I leaving and head to noona's apartment before I rush inside to shower and get ready after texting Jake my address. Once I'm done showering I pull on some black jeans and a black t shirt with the red plaid leather jacket I finished. I then brush through my hair I just finishing up when I hear Ellie noona calling out. "Lionel you have a suitor here for you!" I blush at those words as I make my way out of the room I giving her a slight look. "Really noona? Suitor?" She just shrugs before pulling me into a hug whispering in my ear. "Be careful and if he tries anything I won't hesitate to commit murder." I give her a look when she pulls away before she leaves to her bedroom I shaking my head before I head over to Jake who's standing by the door. "Sorry about that noona's a little crazy." I suddenly hear a loud "I heard that!" I cringe and quickly lead him out of the apartment he looking at me in amusement. "You two look similar with the red hair and hazel eyes." I nod smiling. "Everyone always thought we were biological siblings because my brother and I look nothing alike." He looks at me curiously and I pull an old picture up of me and Sean I showing it to Jake. "This is me and my brother Sean." Jake's eyes widen slightly. "Wow you two look completely different with his blonde hair and blue eyes and your red hair and hazel eyes." I nod putting my phone away as we get in the van. "Yeah. But unfortunately we're related still. He keeps trying to get me to visit him in prison." Jake frowns looking concerned and protective I immediately saying reassuringly. "I'm not going to. I've just been ignoring him." He nods in approval and I change the subject. "So what are we doing?" He just smiles and leads me over to a car motioning for me to get in back I doing so curiously and he gets in after me closing the vans door. We buckle up and soon reach a little cafe I looking curious as we get out Jake wearing a cap and mask. He motions the driver off and leads me inside my eyes widening when I see it's a puppy cafe I becoming excited at all of the small puppies. "Oh my gosh they're all so cute!" Jake takes off his mask smiling at me happily. "I was hoping you'd like it." I look at him smiling. "Like it? Jake I love it! I love dogs. I've always wanted one but Sean hated animals." He goes to say something but I quickly change the subject. "Let's go order and then look at all the little ones." He nods and we go up to the counter I ordering a small iced caramel coffee and Jake orders something as well we grabbing our drinks and head over to the area where the puppies are. I smile and coo over the babies feeling happy and content when Jake speaks up. "So tell me more about yourself Lionel." I look at him curiously. "Like what?" He shrugs. "What's some more of your hobbies besides designing clothes?" I think for a moment before saying honestly. "I don't really do much. If I wasn't designing clothes I was reading about different school subjects to make sure I was educated. Sean pulled me out of school in the eighth grade because my teacher was apparently gay and I never went back." He frowns at that. "So you basically taught yourself?" I nod saying simply. "I liked learning about physics though. Kept with it for quite a while." He smiles at that. "That's one of my favorite subjects. That and math." I smile happily. "I love math. I'm the one who always did the calculations needed for what people owed us. A lot of people would try and short us but I always knew because I could do the calculations in my head. That's why I unfortunately always ended up doing the errands because Sean knew I wouldn't let us be shorted or anything." Jake's quiet for a minute before he asks gently. "Was it hard growing up in the environment you had?" I pause before saying honestly. "I mean sure I wish I could have had a normal childhood like going to the park to play or being around other kids my age but I have a few good memories. Like hyung taking me out for ice cream after my first deal. Or when I got my license and hyung bought me my motorcycle. Sure it wasn't an ideal childhood but it wasn't completely horrible." Jake nods then looks at me curiously. "You have a motorcycle?" I smile and nod proudly. "I've had it since I was eighteen. It's the first thing I ever learned to drive." He hums before changing the subject. "So how do you feel about working at the homeless shelter? I know you said you felt bad about it." I nod saying softly. "Yeah there's a guy there around our age and he seems to be pretty cold and distant. But he did warn me that the man who runs the shelter is apparently very handsy and touchy." Jake frowns at that looking protective. "Be careful around him then. If he does anything tell me immediately." I roll my eyes feeling a little amused. "Jake I'm a former gang member I can handle myself around creeps. I may be small but I've taken down guys twice my size." He frowns a little. "I'm just worried is all. I don't want anything to happen." I smile a little softly. "Well thank you for worrying but I'll be fine." He goes to say something but I change the subject. "So what's it like being on stage in front of giant crowds and being screamed at?" He smiles down at me. "It's really cool and a rush. It's also fun to perform different dances and everything." I nod smiling and we continue to chat for a little while until the barista of the cafe gets our attention. "I'm sorry but we're closing." I look shocked me and Jake giving each other surprised looks but we bow politely then quickly leave the cafe heading outside. "Well I guess I better get home before my noona worries." He looks a little disappointed but nods in understanding. "Yeah I should probably get back to the dorm." I nod and he calls for the car I shifting a little at the cold night air the jacket I made fashionable but not really made to keep you warm. Once Jake gets off the phone he frowns down at me and gently wraps an arm around me pulling me close into his side I blushing a little. "I guess I should have thought of different material to use for the jacket to keep people warm." He looks me over curiously. "You made that? It looks really nice." I instantly become a little shy. "Thanks." He smiles and thankfully the car comes I getting in back and Jake gets in with me we heading back to noona's apartment. Once we stop at it Jake leads me to the front door I turning to him shyly. "Thanks for an amazing date." He smiles down at me. "You're very welcome." We look into each other's eyes I working up enough courage to lean up and peck his lips before I give a quick "have a safe trip home. Tell me when you get to the dorm." I then quickly open the door and rush inside carefully closing the door and lean back against it my face like a fire truck. Taking a breath I head to my room where I change into some pajamas I waiting for Jake to tell me he made it safely back before I climb into bed and fall asleep almost immediately.
