Always, Forever || JJ Maybank

Chapter One

Annie's Pov:
We're hanging at a new look house that they're building. Kie was wondering around looking at all the new stuff they put in, I'm sitting on the deck with Pope and JJ reading my new book, Sen and Sensability by Jane Austen. John b my brother, twin brother actually is on the roof, balancing on one foot trying to hold his beer at the same time. Dumb idea in my opinion but what can you do?
"That what a three story fall to the deck? I give you about a 1 in 3 chance of survival." Pope says
"Hm" John b grunts and licks his finger, sticking it in the air like he's checking where the wind is going.
"Should I do it?" He asks looking down at me and I give him an annoyed look
"Yeah you should jump, I'll shoot you in the way down." Pope says holding up the staple gun
"Your gonna shoot me?" My brother asks
"They're gonna have Japanese toilets with towel warmers." Kie says
"Of course they are why wouldn't they?" JJ says
"This used to be a turtle habitat but who cares about the turtles, I guess." She says walking over to me
"Watcha reading?" She says
"Jane Austen." I answer and show her the cover
"I can't have cold towels" JJ says
"Can you please like not kill yourself?" She says looking up at my brother
"Don't spill that beer I'm not giving you another one" JJ says
"That's all your worried about J?" I laugh
"Woah! Oh shit." I hear John b say and then the clank of a beer can falling causing me and Kie to laugh
"Oh of course you did, like right I said not to."
"Noooo" John B groans
"Dumb ass" Kie says
I look over at Pope who was looking out into the driveway.
"Hey!" I hear an older man yell
"Hey- uh securities here let's wrap it up!" Pope says starting to jog toward the van
"Boys are early today." John b says
"Humpty, Dumpty, let's roll!" JJ yells
"Time to go cupcake you can finish the book in the Twinkie!" He says grabbing my hand making me lose my page
"Come on J I was just to the good part!" I say trying to keep up with him
"Gary is that you?" He yells
"Gary good to see you man!" John b yells running by me and JJ
"Yeah your just asking for it." Kie laughs
"JJ!" The old man grumbles
JJ let's go of my hand as we weave through the empty walls of the house. Me and JJ came back together as the older officer ran right into JJ
"Not much of a hugger man!" JJ says turning away from the man and running the opposite direction
"There going out front!" The officer yells
"Go, go, go, go!" JJ says as we approach a fence we have to jump over. Pope and JJ make it to the other side and I do shortly after.
"Bus is leaving!" JB yells out his window
"Hurry up Annie!" JJ yells as he hops in the van and I do the same a second after
"Hey! Hey!" The officer yells as he chases after our van
"Check out Gary coming for a raise!" Pope laughs
"Hey slow down a little!" JJ tells John b as he sticks a beer can out the side of the car
"Come on man! Your so close!" JJ yells
"J stop." I slap the side of his arm
"Stop he's gonna have a heart attack" Kie says which makes me giggle
"Aww they don't pay you enough dude!" JJ says tossing the can to the sweaty officer
"JJ come on stop!" Kie says
"Stop." I say
"Come on that sort of initiative is just begging to be punished!" He laughs along with the rest of the boys

John B's pov:

Outer banks paradise on earth. It's the sort of place you have two jobs 2 houses, two tribes one island. There's figure 8 where the Kooks live, and then the cut, home sweet home. Home to the pouges. The downside of pouge life is we're ignored and neglected but the upside to pouge life is, we're ignored and neglected. Which means we do whatever we want, whenever we want. That's JJ, My Best friend since the 3rd grade. Hes about as local as they come, latest in a long line of fishing,drinking,smuggling, vandeta holding salt lifers who made their living off the water. second best surfer I know, just don't tell him or Annie I said that.
Annabelle Elizabeth Routledge or Annie as we call her. My Dad always said she's the sun that will always shine. That's true, besides being the kindest, smartest, funniest person I know she's also the wildest. When she's not surfing with JJ or cleaning beach's with Kie, she reads books and saves money to travel. She wants to travel to 100 countries before she's 45. Thats Kiara or Kie as we call her, Shes a rich kid actually she fits in both worlds. When shes not saving turtles or listening to Marley or getting a dolphin tatoo, she hangs out with us. Shes Annie's best friend. Thats Pope, the brains of the operation. Finalist for the Lucas T Vanderhorst Merit scholarship and the smartest person I know, don't tell Annie I said that. Little bit of a weirdo but hes a pouge, just like the rest of us. Thats my crew. We live in an old fish shack on the marsh, the chateau as dad used to call it. This is dad he disappeared at sea 9 months ago looking for a shipwreck, 3 months after he went missing he was officially presumed dead, we refused to sign the papers, until we see a body we're not giving giving up. This is Mom she split when we were little, last I knew she was living in colorado, I think it was Colorado? Since dad vanished our uncle T is supposedly our legal guardian but right now hes in Mississippi, building houses. Thats where our story starts, Two teens and there crew living alone.

Annie's Pov:
"Alright John, Annabelle it has come to my attention that you are unemancioated minors living alone am I right?" The DCS lady asks
"No?" John b says
"No, no?" I say and she gives me a weird look
"No." John b says
"Look guys I need honesty to help you. That's what we all want right?" She says
"Ma'am we are being honest." I say
"Okay then when is the last time you spoke to your Uncle?" She asks
"Uh 34 minutes ago." John b says looking at his watch
"And when was the last time you saw him?" She asks
"2 hours and- 43 minutes ago?" John b says looking at me for assurance and I nod my head
"Alright, we're gonna come out the tomorrow to talk to you uncle. If he's not there then we will move forward with foster care. I want to assure you, we're gonna find guys safe and loving homes." She says and I look over to John B

"Homes? Did you hear that correctly JB she said 'homes' as in the Routledge twins will not be living together anymore!" I yell as we walk back to the van
"Annie calm down they aren't going to split us up
"John B you know as well as I do that kooks do not want to adopt one teenager let alone two. Which means foster homes for the next 2 years!" I say
"We won't be in foster homes because dad will come back okay he will." He says pulling out of the parking lot
"God I hope so."

"Hurricane Agatha continues its steady march towards Kildare island in the Outer banks of North Carolina." The tv says
"Holy shit." John b says
"You think they'll cancel?" I ask
"For sure." He answers
"Hey howie!" I say as we walk through the building and a siren starts blaring
"I'm gonna call them hold on."
"Holding." I say as he picks up the phone and tells the DCS lady that we can't do the meeting tomorrow due to the weather.
"Hey pope just texted me, he wants to go surf" I say showing him the message
"Alright then, let's boogy!" He says walking to the van

"It's a double overhead out there bro!" I say
"Double overhead?" JB asks
"Those aren't surface waves guys." Pope says and we just laugh in response
"Says who Popey!" Running towards the water
John b and I had caught a couple but got knocked off with the crest of the wave.
"What the hell." I hear John B say as I come up from the water
"Is that a boat?" Pope asks
"Come on, can we leave?" I say and swim towards the shore.
