A Silent Scar

Chapter 5

     Ortho brought Silen to 1C class, where their class to learn and study together. He led her to a vacant desk right next to his seat.

“There's your seat right beside me. This way we'll ask for each other's help easily," The humanoid with flaming short light blue hair said in an exciting tone.

     Silen smiled in response. She expressed gratitude through hand gestures graciously, to which Ortho did the same to reply her thanks to him.

     The school bell rang for the first period to commence. Class 1C have their Potionology in their first period, so all students donned their lab coats in the laboratory. Crewel Divus, the professor of the subject, arrived after them with his pointer in his hand.

“I heard that there is a new transferred puppy in this class. May I see Silen?" Crewel asked the class.

     Silen raised her hand in response to her name being called by Crewel.

“The headmaster had informed me about your mute condition. I don't know much about sign language, so I'm expecting you to communicate with me through text on our phones. Would you agree with me?" Crewel suggested, to which Silen nodded in understanding.

     She approached Crewel with her phone in her hand. Crewel then shared his contact number to the mute freshman. Once she saved his number, Silen gave an Okay finger. With a warm smile, Crewel ordered her to return to her lab desk as he was about to begin their learning in the morning.

“ Alright, puppies. Today, we're going to experiment with a few herbs and potion ingredients to make bottles of truth serum. I want volunteers for searching and finding the listed ingredients for our experiment," Crewel announced.

“ Silen, let's volunteer ourselves. I can use my identification scanner to detect the ingredients,” Ortho suggested while signing, to which Silen agreed with a nod of her head.

     Ortho raised his robotic hand, catching Crewel’s attention."Professor Crewel, we would love to be volunteers for the task!”

“Very well. What are you waiting for? Go now!" Crewel said, ordering the freshmen to hurry out from the laboratory.

     Ortho, along with Silen, went to the botanical garden once they exited the laboratory and the school. They entered the garden, only to be greeted by the chirping birds and the green light and colourful lights flashed from the majestic plants.

     Silen was stunned. Her breath was caught on her throat, amazed and speechless by the beautiful garden under the glass dome. She even signed to Ortho, praising the beauty of the botanical garden.

     Ortho understood her signs, winking.” Yes, I agree. This garden planted various species of plants from the ones for potion making to herbs for medication.” He explained, introducing Night Raven College's unique botanical garden.

     The humanoid freshman then retrieved a paper list that Crewel gave him to search and find their experiment ingredients. His eyes keenly read the names of the ingredients. Silen also followed him reading them.

“ It said here… The ingredients we are seeking are two moon shrubs, a basket of scarlet gem cranberries, two lemon pears, a handful of crystal cat's eyes fruits, and lastly, twenty blue strawberries.” He read aloud.

“I think that it would be wise for us to split up and search for the ingredients. I'll go left to find moon shrubs and lemon pears while you go right to find crystal cat's eyes fruits, scarlet gem cranberries, and blue strawberries. We'll meet here after ten minutes so we won't make Professor Crewel and our classmates wait for a long time,”
