He limped, favoring his broken leg. It was about halfway healed and would be further along if he could figure out how to meditate while not sitting still. He was sure Wei Wuxian would be able to find a solution. The man seemed incapable of sitting still for more than five breaths; he must have perfected some form of moving meditation....
Wei Wuxian who was currently flirting with two female Jin disciples.
Why am I keeping him alive again? Even in his own head, he sounded like a whiny toddler.
Keeping Wei Ying alive at the Wen Indoctrination had seemed an impossible task. One he had failed fifteen times per the appended journal that had replaced his letters. Three times alone the obnoxious man had been stabbed to death for refusing to give up his stupidly named sword. Who names their sword Suibian anyway? Spiritual swords were nearly sentient; they should be treated with respect and honor, not irreverence and mischievously juvenile antics. Now they were on their way to fight some cave monster. I'm quite positive that idiot will find some new way to die. Probably throw himself in front of everyone in the hopes that the monster will eat him and leave the rest of us alone? Can you have some sense of self preservation? He glanced quickly at the menace, and could not stop his face hardening from anger. Still flirting? Do they know it's only flirting? Or do they think you're serious?
Are you serious? Do their hearts beat faster when you smile at them? His own traitorous heart had skipped many, many, beats the few times when Wei Ying had stopped smiling that stupidly cute grin that turned his closed or almost closed eyes into endearing little crescents to just stare, silvery eyes wide open. The happy, smiling Wei Wuxian was ridiculously adorable; the serious one was devastatingly beautiful.
Memories assaulted his mind. Wei Ying, carelessly posed over his copies of the Rules.... Robes tucked up into his belt, strong legs exposed past his knees to the river water when he tried to catch fish.... The earnest sound in his voice when he asked Shufu for stories about his mother.... The way he looked, so confused, back at the Wen discussion conference after pulling off his ribbon.... Do you know what you did? Do you understand what it means to us? To me? You've copied the Rules so many times... you must understand that it was an open declaration of your intention to marry me. In the deep well of his heart, it was a declaration he desperately wished to be real. Xiongzhang thought I was upset simply because he touched my ribbon and I hate him.
I don't hate Wei Ying, Xiongzhang. I don't hate him.
Wei Wuxian was done flirting for now. He was bouncing his way up the trail as energetic as a three day old colt, but with far more grace.
His eyes zeroed in on a small embroidered bag one of the girls must have given him being twirled around graceful fingers and felt his face harden even more in anger. Or frustration. Or jealousy. He forced himself to focus on reality and to stop yearning for something that could never be, only to hear the menace ask, "How about I carry you on my back?"
He must have responded because Wei Ying's beautiful, kissable, lips, cheeks and eyes were smiling even as he continued to tease. Ridiculous.
I'm not sure which one of us is more ridiculous. You for flirting with any girl even considered passably cute or me for wishing you meant it when you flirt with me.
Dear readers.
I'm having so much fun with this story, that my characters in my other unfinished stories aren't speaking to me. They are all frowning at me or have turned their backs, pouting like toddlers.
You really should see the inside of my brain one day. It's amusing how crowded it is with my alter egos sometimes.
However, there's a character in Gusu practically bouncing like a 5 year old who's been promised ice cream for dinner for weeks now. "Write me! Write me! Aitch! You promised. and I've been sooooooo goooood. Please, Aitch? Write me????"And last night, WWX finally (finally!!!!!) said "Fine. This is how we get from where we are in the previous chapter to now. LWJ just gives me that half tick that he calls a smile. JYL is squealing in excitement. "Yes, A'Xian! That's perfect!!!"
So. Gusu is hopfully wrapping up this week. Crossing my fingers.
Thank you for reading and commenting.
- Aitch.
