11. Walk in Your Character’s Shoes

Place yourself in your main character’s position. Pick a scene from your story. Is it in a bakery? A warehouse? The local park? Maybe someone’s house? Dress-up like how your character would (unless your character has a nose ring and is missing an eye) and then go to a building or place that resembles the one in your story. Does your character talk aimlessly to the strangers in the park? Okay, well, role-play it and do the same thing in real life. For a whole day, wear your character’s shoes. The result of this exercise was either A) You run immediately to your laptop to change all the horrible things you made your character do… or B) You feel rejuvenated and finish your novel with a sense of freshness.
