13. Expect the Unexpected
Bored with how your novel is going? Here’s a handy way to get it where you want it. Make your main character do something totally unexpected. Your character is shy? Make her try out for drama. Is she evil? Make her subconsciously help the old lady with her groceries (and then she steals them!). Sometimes we have a good motive for a story, and the beginning is real interesting and breath-taking. Then we loose the reason we started the thing in the first place. Find the reason again and get your story on a brighter path.
