The amount of people gathered outside could definitely not compare to the crowd within the building. With how the once promising and organised residential building now stood with police tape surrounding almost all corridors near the one which was recently bombed, Jungkook could only make silent notes of the mess.
"Boss." A voice speaks, and he nods in acknowledgement. "I contacted the owner and double checked with the security. The CCTV footage has been withdrawn. The staff says they have no idea who could've done this." Yugyeom reports.
"M-mr. Jeon!" As soon as he's mentioned, the building owner Mr. Yi is spotted running on his toes towards the aforementioned. "W-why did you bother c-coming till here? Y-you could've asked me and I would've r-reported to you instead—"
"You already faced a huge loss, Yi. How could I have troubled you more?" As if Jeon Jungkook wearing casuals to meet him wasn't enough to scare the owner, him referring to the owner so casually by his surname, like calling a dog, definitely shuts the owner up.
A Jungkook wearing his suit was one who wouldn't talk anything out of business. But A Jungkook wearing casuals to A meeting was one who was ready to take matters personal if and when required.
"May I see his apartment?"
No one, not A single soul dares interrupting him as Jungkook is guided to his desired destination. As he finally stands in front of Taehyung's now destroyed apartment door, one of the policeman is quick to rush and open the door for Jungkook.
"I don't want anyone following me inside except my security guard." He instructs, earning various nods as he ushers Yugyeom to follow him in.
The once nicely kept apartment was almost brought to ruins now, making Jungkook acknowledge how the attackers must've also planted the bombs inside.
Broken pieces of glass and wood crushed beneath his black leather boots as he ventures further inside. The curtains were half burned. The utensils in the kitchen broken too.
"Check the guest room." He orders Yugyeom and makes a separate turn to enter the bedroom he knew, belonged to Taehyung.
As compared to the other parts of the apartment, this was still comparatively well. The only burnt marks were that on the wallpaper and the wooden floor, that slowly trailed to an enormous cupboard in the corner that held some many books.
Curiously and attentively, Jungkook scans the books from a little far. Taehyung had always had a habit of reading books, a habit he inherited from his cousin brother Kim Namjoon.
It only ever added on to his mysterious personality.
Jungkook never liked it.
As Jungkook turns to leave, his eyes then catch the sight of a novel kept on the besdside post. Without realising, he finds himself picking it up. Wiping the dust off of it, he flips the pages, watching how Some pages had some highlighted lines too before stopping at the one page that had the bookmark on it.
"M-m-mr. Jeon!!" The owner calls out as soon as Jungkook finally exits the apartment with Yugyeom following after him. "I-i just wanted to offer my condolences—"
"Yi." But Jungkook shuts him up once more. "If you hope for yourself to live on to see the day your daughter gets married, I suggest you don't let the police carry on with this investigation any further."
"B-but sir," The owner stutters. "I-it's a l-legal matter, stopping the i-investigation would he extremely d-difficult! B-besides, I assure you I'm going to do absolutely everything in my efforts to bring j-justice to your husband—"
"I will be solving this matter myself." Jungkook continued, walking straight ahead while the owner rushed to keep up with his pace. "And about the legal difficulties." He finally stopped and faces the petrified owner.
"It's either you facing those legal difficulties or dying by illegal ones. And might I remind you, there's no assurity your family would get to see you in the second case. Be it before, or after death."
"Hey." Resounded Jihu's frail voice as she stands up. The past few weeks had clearly taken a toll on her, Jungkook could see it in her body language. But that doesn't reduce the accusing tone her voice carried. "Where were you, Jungkook?"
"I was busy." Is all Jungkook speaks, handing over his jacket to one of the bodyguards standing outside Taehyung's hospital room as he enters it.
"Busy??" But Jihu only gets more offended as she glares at her brother who passes by in front of her and towards Taehyung who was presently in a deep slumber. "Busy enough to not even bother visiting your husband for 3 whole days? Especially after he's here because of your fault—"
"He's not my husband."
"Doesn't change the fact that he's here because of you!" She responds back quick. "And dare you cut me off again, Jungkook."
". . ." For a while, Jungkook remains silent. His only focus being the resting face of his ex husband who laid on the bed with a look so peaceful, as if he wasn't just on a life death situation a week ago. "I'm sorry, Jihu."
". . . He doesn't like it here." She speaks once the tension settles a bit. "Keeps saying he wants to go home."
"Mn, alright." Jungkook nods, already taking a seat on the stool beside Taehyung's bed. "I'll bring him home tomorrow."
"The doctors say he needs to be here till the end of the month at least."
"We'll assign him a private doctor."
". . . You think he'll agree on coming back?"
"He has to." Is all Jungkook says, reclining on the stool with a tired sigh. "It's not safe outside as of now."
