Notes:
- Kinda goofed and forgot to mention [reader] wears a tie in their uniform; it's basically like Leon's but with a dark gray collared shirt and a short black tie
- This story isn't really in order with RE4, kinda all over the place right now!! Sorry bout that! I'm gonna rewatch Cory's gameplay of the remake before writing Chapter 3

Escaping the old shack, you and Leon snuck off safely into the messy outdoors. You both had your guns in hand, ready for an attack at any giving moment. It was uncomfortably silent, and this made the two of you stick closer together. After all, it wasn't anything compared to being in the closet before. There was more open space, more vulnerabilities.

The muddy ground barely sounded below your feet. You glance at Leon, and he's just as focused. Eventually you spot something like a small part of the town, along with some wandering ganados. With a nudge, you gather Leon's attention, nodding your head in the direction of the small town.

"I don't think we're invited to that party," He murmured, observing the messy town, gun held securely in his hands. "You see any sign of Baby Eagle?" he looked over to you.

You shook your head. "Not from here." You sighed, pausing for a moment. "...What're the chances we can sneak through and take a look?"

"Without getting spotted? Depends on how loud you're gonna get." He smirked.

"Says you," You snickered, nudging his arm with your elbow. "I'm surprised you don't have to walk funny with all that muscle." You quipped.

He rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah. Like you mind all my muscle."

You paused, looking him up and down. After a minute of silence, you scoffed quietly. "With good reason." You murmured, glancing down at your gun. "Are we going in, or not?"

Leon seemed to hesitate before responding. "Yeah...yeah, we're going in." He looked over at you. "No time to bathe in the stink?"

"Shut up, let's go already." You interrupted, nudging him and making a move toward the town.

As the two of you approached the town, groans of ganados caught your attention. You scowled quietly— they really are a pain. "Careful." Leon warned, pulling you closer to avoid a cracked plank in the floor.  You barely flinched at the touch— that's what the two of you always did. He'd help and tease you, and you'd do the same in return. That's how it's always been, and how it always will be. Hopefully.

You shook your head at those thoughts. Hopefully? Really?

After some sneaking, you managed to spot something shiny on a table. You held Leon's shoulder with your free hand, gun lowered in the other. "Wait." You muttered out, placing your hand onto your gun and approaching the item.

"...Find anything?" Leon questioned after a short pause, gun lowered.

"Uh.... Does a ruby count?" You answered, holding up the shiny red stone. It was well-sized, just barely half the size of your palm, and shaped to fit perfectly...but into what?

He shrugged. "Hold onto it and find out." He suggested, one of his hands resting on his hip. You silently rolled your eyes and shoved the gemstone into your pocket, checking your gun's ammo and allowing your eyes to be drawn to your partner, who was doing the same. Your thoughts wandered to the closet you'd woken up in. He must care a lot to drag your body and hide it with him, you thought; though you might've admired him a moment too long.

"[Reader]?" He called out to you. "Something wrong?"

"No, no." You quickly waved his concern off, your eyes avoiding his as you fixed your uniform. You scowled quietly, cursing your choice of shirt size and loosening your tie. "It's nothing, let's keep moving."

"Alright then." He mumbled, nodding and looking over at a locked hatch in the floor. It seemed important, you thought, since it was all chained and locked up. The ganados, or maybe one ganado, seemed interested in it as well, evident from all the scratches and  marks in the wood. You looked over at Leon, and he returned your gaze. A moment of silence passed, as if the two of you didn't need words to convey your idea. With a nod, you both approached the hatch, guns held up. With a strong stomp from both of you, the door crashed open. The two of you watched each other's blind spots, Backs against each other as your guns pointed in opposite directions, flashlights positions above them. You both move quickly down the stairs, disappearing into a dark basement before being discovered. Or so you thought.

You glanced around the dingy hallways— they looked like shit; smelt all the same, too. Confirming the absence of danger for now, you both lowered your guns.

"...Smells like a rat's ass in here." Leon muttered.

"Something died in here, I think." You muttered back. Giving a quiet sigh at the stench, your flashlight hovered over some spots of the area as you traversed through the hall, before landing on a bag in a small room. You tap Leon's arm, gathering his attention and nodding your head in the direction of the dirty bag.

Leon stares at the bag for a moment, and you do the same. You share a glance. "...'S barely moving." Leon commented, earning a nod of agreement from you. He creeps forward, gun at the ready and taking quiet steps. Once close enough, he nudges the bag with his foot. The bag wriggles in response, prompting you and Leon to raise your guns. You share a glance as the bag moves on the floor in front of you.

". . ."

"...I'm gonna open it." You speak first, reaching for the rope securing the bag shut. Leon holds your shoulder.

"You can't, I'll do it." He insisted, moving you by your waist and positioning you behind him. You stumbled a little from the sudden movement. With a sigh, you muttered something under your breath, aiming your gun at the bag as Leon approached it...

The minute Leon pulled the rope away and opened the bag, he aims his gun at the man inside. He seems to have tape over his mouth, so Leon kneels down and rips it off.
"That hurt, you know?" He grunted

"Seemed like you really wanted to talk." Leon replied.

"How observant, Señor. Now, say— you got a smoke?"
