Octavia Lestrange

Mattheo and I walk to the dungeons as fast as possible, entering the class making almost no noise. Snape looks up at us, shakes his head in disappointment and continues talking, and we both find a place at the back of the class.

Draco looks at me weirdly, his brows furrowed and his mouth in a straight line. I flash a quick smile at him to tell him everything is okay, and then I grab my potions book, peeking at Daphne's book to find out what page we're on.

I scan my eyes over the page, trying to remember anything we've talked about the last few lessons, but my mind is completely blank.

Looking over to Mattheo, he's already in full on concentrating mode, throwing different kinds of ingredients into his kettle, stirring in different ways, and I can't help but appreciate the sight, admiring him for a moment.

The way his hair is styled, the delicate but sharp jawline and nose, the scar on his cheek, dark eyebrows, his eyes, which are normally cold and stern now relaxed, focused, it's like i'm looking at a whole different person.

Somehow, I find myself noticing he is actually handsome, and the velvet wings of a butterfly softly stroke my heart. I shake my head and try to push away the feelings, even though I can't help but stare at him.

"Like what you see, Curls?" he says, not even looking up while talking to me, and I shake my head in defense realizing I was checking him out, before quickly focusing my eyes back on my textbook.

"I can't remember a single thing we've talked about in lessons the past few weeks" I groan, flicking the pages of my book in a bored manner.

Mattheo looks up at me for a moment, silently judging me, before smiling just the slightest bit, handing me his notes. "Just follow the steps, you'll get there." He says before focusing on his own potion again.

I look at his notes, his handwriting messy but still readable, along with a few random doodles along the side of the page. I smile and get started on my own potion, looking around the classroom a few times.

Snape's eyes are on me, and while to others it might seem he's silently judging the way i'm working, I know it goes way deeper than that.

He's judging my last name, my entire existence and my mother and the fact that she's still crazy obsessed with Voldemort, cherishing him like he's a god sent straight to earth, while to everyone with normal common sense knows he's nothing more than a dark nightmare waiting to scare you when vulnerable.

I shake my head, realizing I was zoning out, and I quickly resume following up the note's of Mattheo, making sure I do everything exactly as it says, not wanting to mess up my potion grades even more than they already are.

After what feels like an eternity, my potion looks just the same as Mattheo's and I smile, softly nudging his side, giving him the smallest of smiles.

"Thanks for the notes, they really helped me." I say, nodding my head while glancing at the time, and then at Snape, who's busy with firing insults at Hermione and Harry, and the corners of my mouth rise in a smirk.

"It's no problem, Octavia, if you need help with anything else just let me know." Mattheo blurts out, and then we both fill a sample flask with our potion and engrave our names on it, bringing them up to Snape's desk before cleaning up.

I grab my book and put it back in my bag before turning to Daphne, smiling up at her. "Hey girl, how are you?" I ask, swinging my bag over my shoulder before exiting the dungeons, walking up the stairs and through the hallways.

"I'm good" She said, before looking at me. "What about you though? I missed you the first lesson? What happened?" She asks, her face filled with curiosity but at the same time concern.

"I was talking to Mattheo" I say, shrugging my shoulders. "It was finally time to sort things out after a month and a half of us fighting and bickering, and I'm still not a fan of him, but we talked it out"

We sit down at a table in the library, both of us putting our bags down next to us. Daphne looks at me before speaking again. "So, you guys are what, friends now?" She asks while grabbing a notebook and pen along with her Defense Against the Dark Arts book.

I scoff. "Hell no, we're more like friendly acquaintances" I blurt out immediately while grabbing my sketchbook and a pencil. "Friends sounds yet a little too close."

"Friendly acquaintances it is then" Daph says, before looking up. Theo and Draco are walking towards us, both grinning from ear to ear like the two idiots they are. I prop my head onto my hand and shoot them a judging look.

"What in Merlins name did you guys do?" I ask, slightly concerned. When they're like this you know they're up for trouble, and usually it't not the good kind of trouble.

Theo smirks and sits down next to me, dropping his bag down onto the ground. "We've locked two kissing third years into a broom closet." He says, laughing while giving Draco a high-five. "Oh and we also gave them a couple of condoms, figured they might need them"

"Damn, those poor kids." I say, turning to Daphne with a smirk, and she just shakes her head while trying to suppress a laugh.

"You mean my poor eyes?" Draco blurts out, shaking his head. "Those kids were all over each other, they could've at least be inside their dorm or something" He grabs his book too, opening it and turning the pages, uninterested.

"It's not like you've never kissed someone in the hallway before, I saw you last week with that redhead, you were suffocating her almost." I groan, annoyed. I grab my pencil and stare at the blank paper in front of me, before drawing down a random line and starting to sketch some characters.

"For your interest, I wasn't suffocating her, and we weren't in the middle of the hallway, it was in a dark corner, and it was fully empty" Draco says, grabbing his notes.

"Who was the girl though? Why don't I know any of this?" Theo says, looking at me before averting his gaze to Draco, a confused expression written all over his face.

"Because it's none of your business? Now focus on your DADA notes, we have that test after our free period, remember?" Draco says, before ignoring both of us, turning to his notes just like Daphne.

I look at Theo confused, and we both shake our heads. I'm quite confident about the test, so I stick to drawing a little. I smile and start to draw Mattheo, his face being stuck in my mind like a terrible memory you try to forget, although, somehow I can't think about him like a bad thing anymore. Something shifted, and every time I think about him and his pretty face I get small butterflies in my stomach.

When I'm done, I rip the page out and fold it up, planning to give it to him later. I eventually also turn to my notes and see them through just one more time, making sure I know every term and theory there is.

I need to score good on the test. This year hasn't been easy for me since I joined it so late, and I need to put everything on everything to try and get my grades as high as possible, although Dumbledore reassured me I would pass this year no matter what.

After we're all done revising, we pack our things up and walk through the empty halls back to the classrooms, waiting for the professor to arrive. The test goes by easily, but I can't help to notice Mattheo is not there, and for the rest of the lessons, he's absent.

"So, what happened to Mattheo? He seems to have disappeared" I ask Theo as soon as our last lesson is over and we're walking back to our common room.

"I Haven't heard anything from him either, maybe he didn't learn for the test? Or maybe he felt sick, I don't know" Theo says. I blurt out the password and we both enter the common room.

"It's weird though, I apologized to him and next thing he's absent for the rest of the lessons, seems pretty weird to me" I say as we walk up the stairs towards my dorm.

"Yeah, I'll ask where he was when I see him, now, we could watch a movie at yours?" Theo asks as we both stop at the top of the stairs.

I smile and nod my head. "Sure, yeah, it's not like I've got anything else to do" I tell him, and we both walk towards my dorm.

Grabbing my keys, I open the door, and as soon as we step inside, my mouth falls agape in shock, and my eyes grow big.
