Narrows, 1989
"Can't you lend a few bucks, man? I promise I'll pay you back soon," I begged Matteo.
"That's exactly what you said last time I lent you money, Jack. Why can't you just come work for Maroni like me, man? You ain't gotta ask me to lend you money. You will have your income to cover your and Carina's expenses," Matteo persuaded lighting a cigarette and passing me one. I have given some thought to working for Maroni. His men make good money but I don't want to know what they do for a living. "So, what do you say, Jack?"
I stayed silent taking a drag. This job would benefit Carina and me, "Alright, man. I'll work with you. Ask Maroni when I can start."
Matteo smiled and patted my shoulder, "Way to go, man. I'll tell him tonight."

Present day, Joker's POV
How dare she say those words to me? She thinks she is the only one who has had a tough life when she hasn't seen the world outside that manor. The least she could've done was thank me for saving her life. Her ability to not thank someone is enough for me to know that she doesn't deserve to be saved next time if she does something like that again.

Jane's POV
Why would he say such things? Why does he mean that he knew that I would regret it later? I laid in my bed thinking of me and Joker's last interaction which didn't end well. I would not be surprised if he killed me this time without saving me. I would probably deserve it anyway. I turned over and wondered why Bruce hadn't started looking for me yet. I'm not so sure about Bruce, but I'm sure Alfred was the first person to notice me going missing.
Swiftly I heard my door open. I raised my head slightly from the lying position to take a look at whoever came in. It was the Joker. After I saw that it was him I went back to lying down. I heard him slowly approaching the chair by my bed and taking a seat on it.
"Sit up," he demanded rudely.
I scoffed, "Ask me nicer, and maybe I will."
"Don't. Test. Me. Jane," he spoke slowly pronouncing each word.
"As if you are not right now." Suddenly the covers were ripped off me and he shoved me making me fall on the ground from the other side of the bed.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" I shouted standing on the other side, the bed dividing us.
"You are my problem. Why can't you just shut your fucking mouth?" he yelled with his hands in anger.
"Nobody is asking you to keep me here. You chose this and now suffer the consequences." He grunted in frustration before he climbed on top of the bed trying to get to me. I ran to the other side of the room trying to get away from him. As I kept running from him I stumbled to the door. I twisted the door knob open and to my surprise it was open. I immediately ran out of the room closed the door behind me and locked it. I looked both ways of the hallway. I saw light illuminating from the right and therefore I ran toward it.
As I kept running toward the light, I saw a door. I barged the door open and fortunately, it led outside. By the looks of it, the warehouse was located inside of a forest. I observed my surroundings quickly before making a run inside the forest. I kept running. A few seconds in, I felt myself feeling breathless. I looked behind me to see the warehouse was far enough for me to stop for a minute to catch my breath.
I crouched down in one of the bushes in the forest and caught my breath for a minute. A few seconds in, I heard loud crunches in the distance. I peeked from in between the bush to see Joker's henchmen running in my direction blindly while holding guns. I decided to stay hidden where I was. If I ran I would be killed instantly. As I stayed hidden, the henchmen ran past me. I let out a sigh of relief and looked around to find any roads that could lead me out of this forest.
Out of the blue, I heard a gun being cocked behind me before I felt the tip of it at the back of my head. I froze in my spot and raised my hands in defense, "Not uh a smart decision you made there, Janey," Joker spoke out of breath behind me. I gulped in fear and scrunched my eyes shut waiting for him to pull the trigger. "Get up slowly," he commanded. I obliged and got up slowly while keeping my hands up. "Turn around." I turned around. He let out an annoyed breath before he pointed the gun toward the warehouse, "Get in front of me."
We walked back to the warehouse with him following close behind me with the gun pointed at me. "You know, I knew you would pull something like this. It was just a matter of time, Janey," he confessed while walking behind me. I rolled my eyes and didn't respond. "What don't got a snarky remark for me, Janey?" he chuckled.
"Just fucking shoot me," I told him. Promptly I felt him hit my back with the gun which resulted in a loud thumping sound. "Ah, fuck!" I yelled out of pain holding my shoulder blade crouching down. I hissed in pain and turned to look at him. He motioned the gun in his hand as if he was going to hit me again but in the face this time making me flinch closing my eyes. To my surprise, he didn't. He got closer to my face, "Next time, I won't hesitate to actually shoot you if you keep it up. Get up." I got up still holding my shoulder blade. He pushed the tip of the gun on my neck instructing me to keep walking.
When we reached my room, he harshly shoved me inside making me almost fall but I caught myself. He slammed the door behind him and grabbed me by the throat pushing me against the door. He pressed the tip of the gun into my temple while holding me firmly in place.
"It takes a lot of patience to put up with you, Jane. You know that?" he spoke to my face. He brought his mouth close to my ear and whispered, "Now I know why your own brother can't stand the sight of you." That sentence infuriated me. When he looked back up at me, I headbutted him. He groaned in pain before pulling me away from the door only to slam my body back into it.
I kneeled him in the stomach which made him let go of me. When he crouched, I took my opportunity to run inside the bathroom and quickly locked the door behind me. Momentarily, I heard him banging his fists against the door. He stopped after two hits, "Open the door, Jane!"
"Fuck off!" I shouted from the other side. I walked toward the bathtub and lay inside it in a comfortable position. After a few minutes had passed, I heard the door of my room being slammed shut. I guess I'm spending the night here.
