Devora Rossi woke with a jolt, not to the insistent chirping of her alarm, but to the muffled sound of sobs coming from the guest room. She had fallen asleep after their heartfelt conversation about her eating issues, the late night quiet punctuated only by Devyn's soft snores. Now, the room was filled with a painful vulnerability.
She slipped out of bed, a wave of concern washing over her. She found Devyn huddled on the bed, her face buried in a pillow, the whole frame of her shaking with quiet sobs. Devora's heart ached.
Devyn looked up, her eyes red-rimmed and puffy. 'Sorry, Devora. I didn't mean to wake you. I just... I started thinking about Alex again, and it all got to be too much.' Her voice cracked, a raw emotion bleeding through. 'It feels good to be free, but it also hurts so much. I wasted so much time on that man, only for it to end like this.'
Devora felt a pang of sympathy. The pain, the sheer devastation radiating from Devyn was palpable. 'Why did he have to cheat so many times?' Devyn continued, her voice a mere whisper. 'I loved him. I tried. I was the only one trying. I just want to be loved. To be seen, not for what I can do, but for who I am.'
Devora's throat constricted. 'I see you,' she thought, the words simmering on her tongue. 'I see you, Devyn, and I swear I would love you if you ever gave me the chance.' But she held those words back, afraid of scaring her, of pushing her away.
Devora sat down on the edge of the bed, the mattress dipping slightly under her weight. She reached out, gently taking Devyn's hand in hers. A jolt of warmth shot up her arm, a tingling sensation that made her heart skip a beat. Devyn's eyes met hers, her hand fitting perfectly in Devora's, and for a moment, the world seemed to fade away. Time stood still, all that remained was the raw connection between them. Devyn's touch was light, but it sent a ripple of energy through Devora, sending her pulse racing.
Their eyes locked, a silent conversation passing between them. Devyn leaned forward, her head tilting slightly as if searching for something in Devora's gaze, something that she might not even realize she was looking for. Devora felt a sudden vulnerability, a yearning to be seen, to be known, like Devyn had just described.
The air crackled with unspoken tension, a silent promise hanging in the air. Devora held her breath, her heart pounding in her chest. For a moment, everything felt possible, the future a blank canvas upon which they could paint their own story. But then, Devyn pulled back, a flicker of hesitation in her eyes.
'Thank you,' she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. 'Thank you for being here.'
The moment was broken. Devora's breath hitched. The unspoken words remained, a silent echo hanging in the air. Devora, heart aching, watched as Devyn retreated into herself, back into the safe haven of her grief. The future, once open and vibrant, felt uncertain again.
Devora knew then that she had to be patient. This was a journey, a story that wouldn't be written overnight. But she would be there, every step of the way, ready to offer her support, her friendship, her love, whenever Devyn was ready to see it.
I did not want devyn to just get over Alex easy yes she is happy he is gone but she did invest time into him and I wanted to make it where she is still trying to process that it will only be for 2 or 3 chapters but I wanted to make it realistic and not just have her hop into a relationship with Devora just yet.....
