thank you so much @TreePaine_stan13 for this request <3 i literally had no idea what to write about next which is why this story hadn't been updated in a bit.
It had been a little over a month since Lover had been announced. It was set to be released next month, and the whole world was excited about it. Taylor's first single from the album, ME!, was a hit song despite people's complaints about it being too 'childish' and 'cringey'.
Skylar begged to differ. She loved that song and often listened to it on repeat. She especially loved the 'Hey kids, spelling is fun!' line and was excited to see everyone screaming it at Taylor's concerts in the future.
It pained the 14-year-old to hear people at her school talking about how they thought the song was bad, since she knew how much fun her sister had writing it. She fought back the urge to go off on them to avoid causing a scene, but all she wanted to do was flip them off and tell them to write a song half as good as her sister's.
Thankfully, she didn't have to deal with the constant negativity now that she was on summer break. She was surrounded by family and friends that also loved Taylor, and the only time she saw hateful comments was on the internet.
Summer break meant another thing: Skylar was allowed to fly to New York City to stay with her sister for a couple of months. Because they lived on opposite sides of the country most times, the tiny screen of their phones was where most of their conversations took place. Taylor made it a point to call her sister everyday, or text her at the very least, but that wasn't the same as physically being together in the same space.
The Swift sisters reunited as soon as Skylar was on summer break — the second week of June — and enjoyed being in each other's presence. Taylor was secretly happy that Skylar still wanted to hang out with her. Not all rising high school sophomores thought their siblings were cool enough to hang out with, let alone spend the whole summer with.
Today had been an uneventful day. The two sisters had a slow morning; neither of them rolled out of bed until 10:30. Even then, they sat on their phones for a bit at the kitchen counter. At 11, the older of the Swift sisters suggested they eat brunch and bake together. Taylor quickly prepared pancakes for the two of them, adding extra chocolate chips and whipped cream to Skylar's stack, just the way she liked it. Eager to start baking cookies with her older sister, Skylar didn't waste any time sitting around and chatting. She could do that while they baked. She quickly ate the pancakes, stopping only a few times to tell her sister how good they were. Taylor tried to keep up so as to not keep the teen waiting.
After eating, Skylar went to get dressed while Taylor got out the ingredients. They were baking chocolate chip cookies so it was really simple.
They spent the next half an hour baking together while screaming songs at the top of their lungs, using whatever utensils they had in their hands as microphones. Skylar did most of the singing and dancing while Taylor did more of the actual baking. She didn't mind though. She knew how bad Skylar was at baking, or just making food in general, so she'd rather do it herself.
Once the cookies were baked and out of the oven, they chilled the cookie for 10 minutes before doing a taste test. Skylar set up her phone to record them eating.
"What would you give this out of 13?" Skylar asked Taylor after both of them took a bite.
"13 out of 13 for sure. You?" Taylor turned to her younger sister.
"Same. I didn't know I was so good at baking." Skylar reached for another cookie.
"You barely did anything," Taylor gave Skylar a look.
"What do you mean? I literally did all the important parts." The younger sister defended herself. In her head, she did so much work. To her, even helping just a little bit meant she contributed a great amount.
