I didn't see or hear from Jughead or Betty the next day, which was fine with me. I did have a call from Chipping though, the two of us agreeing that Stonewall was not the place for me. At the moment though, I was preparing to go to Cheryl's party.
"Come on, it'll be fun," Sweet Pea said, coming up behind me and wrapping his arms around my waist.
"It's a highschool party," I replied. "They're notorious for not going well. Have you learned nothing from watching movies?"
"Hey, they're not all bad. Someone's bound to get drunk and do something stupid."
"Well, it's not going to be me because I'll have you there to stop me."
Sweet Pea sighed, turning me around to face him. "I'm not letting you get drunk either. It's great that you can drink again, but do you really want to go back under the knife for a liver transplant?"
"No," I mumbled. "But after everything, I think we've proven that I'm invincible."
"Abigail, everyone's immortal until they die," he laughed.
"Fine. We're not dead right now, though, so let's go," I said, pulling him after me to the door.
The party was in full swing by the time we arrived. Sweet Pea and I made our way into the house, stopping here and there to talk to people. Veronica left Betty and Jughead, making her way over to us. "Jughead was telling Betty and I about you two being recruited to Stonewall Prep," she said.
"And if you were just talking to him, you'd know that I'm definitely not going," I said.
"A good choice on your part," she nodded. "There is no school more nihilistic and/or privileged than Stonewall."
"That's saying something, coming from you," Sweet Pea said, earning a look from Veronica. "No offense," he added quickly.
Veronica waved a hand absently. "No, you're right. Back at Spence, I was just like them. I was worse than Cheryl. But we all know Jughead isn't easily swayed. I'm sure he'd be able to hold his own at that school."
"Jughead's still naive enough to think he's gonna be accepted by the students," I said. "If he does go, that happy little bubble's gonna be popped very quickly."
Veronica sighed, wandering off. "You really think Jughead's gonna be okay if he does go there?" Sweet Pea asked.
"I don't know," I said. "But there's nothing we can do about it. Besides, I thought we were here to have fun."
We walked outside just in time to see Cheryl stepping up in front of the DJ who turned the music off. I spotted Toni, standing nearby, eyes glued on her girlfriend. Cheryl raised a glass, tapping the side to get everyone's attention. "My esteemed guests, may I have your attention please?" she called. "Students of Riverdale, we have a new enemy in our midst. This killjoy is our new principal, Mr Honey." She waited as students booed loudly. "However, never fear. I, as your student body president, will make sure that he is beheaded by Homecoming, or my name isn't Cheryl Marjorie Blossom."
I watched Cheryl as she smiled at the cheering crowd in front of her. I really hoped she was speaking figuratively when she mentioned beheading Honey. But considering the way things in Riverdale have been going, there was a chance it really was going to happen.
"Is Honey really that bad of a principal?" I asked.
Sweet Pea shrugged. "I haven't had any run-ins with him, but I know a lot of others have. He doesn't let things slide like Weatherbee did."
"And that's a bad thing?" I asked. "At least he hasn't tried to bring back those uniforms."
"That week was horrible," Sweet Pea groaned.
