Kings LandingKings landing was always famous for its opera, its dancers, the delights of the crowd. Other than the street of silk, the opera was most mens favourite pass time, to watch the beautiful young ballet dancers with their slender legs, to listen to the gut wrenching sopranos who could steal your mind like sirens.
One night during the usual nightly rush in the streets, a baby girl and her two year old brother were found freezing to death on the opera houses steps. The woman who found the pair, Lady Evelle, took pity on the twins, deciding to take them in as her own. She found that despite her attempts, the older soprano could never bear a child to term. The two abandoned children were her gift....
'How could a mother do this?' she thought as she held the small boy with black hairs hand while she bundled his sister safely in her free arm. 'How could a mother leave their children with no note, no name, nothing? Left to die in the freezing cold snow....'
Evelle took the two of them to her room, lighting a fire and placing the boy in her bed as she sat down in front of the fire, rocking the auburn haired newborn. "Andromeda," she muttered under her breath, the name given to the girl by her new mother meaning 'ruler of men." "Andromeda Constantinescu," She repeated, adding her maiden name onto the childs.
Evelle had never married. She had never cared for men. Their addictions to sex, she thought if her Andromeda were the ruler of men, she would never be subjected to their cruelties as her new mother would protect her. It seemed the baby had put a spell on the woman only to be broken by the brother, her new son...
"Madame," the small boy squeaked as he sat up in the womans bed his back rigid, face dirty as he shook from the shivering cold. "What is your name, child?" Evelle asked him kindly, trying her best to admit her newfound motherly nature. "Aesal," the boy muttered as he pulled himself from the sheets stumbling over his two year old feet to get towards the pair that sat next to the hearth.
The new mother looked up in thought 'made by God' that is what the boys name ment. Perhaps it was because the children were sent to her by the Gods? The boy welcomed the fire sitting crossed, legged near the rocking chair where Evelle sat, looking at his sister in her new cradle.
She had found them curled up together the boy wearing nothing but an undershirt and black breeches and the girl wrapped in nothing but a simple blanket, the boy clung to his sister as if he was trying to protect her from the snow holding her underneath his stomach so she was safe. It would have been a cruel fate if either of them had been in different places that night.
"Mother? Where mother?" The boy asked, finally meeting Evelles eyes. She shook her head at him and shrugged, feeling bad for him she offered him a hand, which he took, rubbing her each nail, obviously finding comfort in his action. His dark eyes began to shine with tears as he sat there at the foot of the chair looking at the woman he did not know but the only person beside his baby sister he could trust.
