A Sirens Call

I have taken a vacation since school has ended so expect more stories to be posted! I hope you enjoy this one :}

~Foolish POV~

I was taking a swim to look for breakfast this morning yet it seemed like something scared all the fish off. I swam across the coral reef and I still couldn't find any fish. It was odd that I could find nothing since the reef was always overpopulated. I searched for a bit longer until I heard a sound I have never heard before. I swam close to the surface and peeked at what was making the sound.

As I look around I see a ship, I think? This is the first time I have seen a ship floating and not under the water. I was always told to stay away from ships but since I was left I have not listened to anything I was told when I was younger. As the ship started to get closer I moved lower down in the water in case there was land walkers. I was always told about land walkers and I stay clear from land just to avoid them.

Eventually the ship was over me and a large object fell into the water and stopped the ship. I swam up a bit and stayed near the ship, "I swear I saw one! It was around here!! Trust me," is all I heard from the ship.

~Vegetta POV~

I sighed and walked to the edge of the ship, "Throw a net on both sides. If we don't see the mermaid then we throw you off the ship for lying." My men nodded and threw the nets off the sides as I walked to the bow and looked off of it and around the area.

My men and I have been at sea for a week now, looking for a mermaid. We can not return to land without one or the King will have our heads.

"Have we got anything yet?!" I yelled, hoping we did. My men responded with a disappointed no until one yelled, "I got something, captain!!" I ran over to my crew member and looked over the edge to see a giant fish.

As the net was being lifted I could tell we caught what we were looking for, I think.

~Foolish POV~

I was too distracted by watching the land walkers on the ship that I didn't notice a net fall around me. I thrashed around tried to free myself before I was out of the water but it didn't work and I felt the cold air on my body. I gave up and looked to the ship to see the land walkers.

I must have passed out, because I woke up in a small tank in a room. All I hear is the talking of land walkers and what they are doing, "So does this mean we can finally go back to land? Or will we continue looking for more mermaids?" I heard one of the land walkers say. I did not care to continue to listen to their conversation so I closed my eyes again and slept.

I wont up in darkness, only hearing soft snores near me. When I sat up more in the small tank I saw a man sleeping in a chair not far from me. I took this time to slowly pull myself out of the tank to try and get out of this dark room.

Once I got into the perfect positionu I pushed off the side of the tank and fell to the floor with a thud. The noise startled me, and I glanced nervously at the sleeping man. He stirred but did not wake, his snores resuming almost immediately.

My body aches from the small tank and my body felt heavy from being out of the water. I dragged myself across the floor, my eyes adjusting to the dim light filtering through a small porthole. Yhe door to the room was slightly open, and I could see sliver of sunlight from the hallway beyond.

I reached the door and carefully pushed it open, looking out. The corridor was empty, lined with wooden walls and flickering lanterns. I pulled myself along, my heart pounding with fear of being seen. I need to find a way off this ship so I can get home,I thought as I continued.

I turned a corner, I heard voices. Panicking, I ducked into a nearby room, hiding behind a stack of barrels. The footsteps got louder, then faded as they passed by. I let out a breath I hadn't realized I was holding.

The room had a small window mear the ceiling, maybe I can fit through there? I climbed up the barrels, struggling with my awkward, unaccustomed movements. When I finally got to the window, I started to squeeze myself through.

I got about halfway out the window when I got stuck. As I was trying to wiggle my way through, I heard the door open and then a man laugh. "So this is where you got to. It seems that you got stuck but I kind of enjoy the view," the man laughed some more before I felt him grab my taip, pulling me out of the window and into his arms. I stare at the man, who has a smile plastered on his face.

Me and the man stared at each other before he started walking back to the tank. I started squirming, trying to get the man to let go, "Calma pez, I just need some scales and then you will be free." When I heard that, I was going to give him my scale sheddings, but the more I look at this man, the more I wish to stay with him.

It has been a few days since I tried to escape and the man, who I now know is named, Vegetta, has watched over me every day. "Human? I am ready to give you my scales, but I have a deal," I said and the mans head shot up. "I wish to stay on this ship with you, but I want to be allowed to go to the ocean whenever I want," I continued.

The man walked over, excitedly, "Deal! Im so happy you are willing to give us your scales. They are the only way to stop us from being exiled." I did not understand much of what the man said, but I did understand the kiss he placed on my forehead, "Thank you, Foolish, I am truly thankful for this. I will take you to sea while I talk to my men."

After I was placed in the water I felt alive, the water on my scales, the cold breeze as I peek out of the water, it is perfect, at least it was at that moment. I swam under the water a bit, hiding under the boat, when I saw them. It was a pod of sirens heading for the ship. When I saw them I swam out of the water, "SIRENS! LEAVE!"

~Vegetta POV~

I heard the scream of a voice I had heard before. As I reached the side of the boat I saw, Foolish, my cute siren. I tossed a net down and pulled him up. He yelled and told us to get out of this area, "Are you ok, Foolish? They didn't hurt you, right?" I asked.

Foolished looked up at me, "Everyone close your ears. I will get them to leave." As he said that, everyone closed their ears. I saw Foolish open his mouth and, what It seemed like, screamed.

When he closed his mouth, his hands landed on my cheeks. As I uncovered my ears, I felt the taste of salt on my lips, when I realized why I did I closed my eyes.

At that moment I felt love and then I felt the cold of water. When I opened my eyes I was under the water with Foolish attached to my lips, I guess this is what I get for trusting a siren, and with that last thought, I felt my consciousness slip away from me, as everything went dark.
