-At the Institute-
"I still don't understand. How can Shadowhunters be better than...than what you people call mundanes?" Josie asks as the four of them walk through the hallway of the Institute.
"Because we protect humans." Maya responds.
Josie sighs and turns towards her."You're right. Humans. You protect humans.
You left Penelope all alone in the van. Great job guys. You rock."
"There is some truth to the idea that human beings should have a modicum of common sense." Ethan says with a serious look on his face.
"Ethan, not now." Maya responds to her brothers behaviour.Hope turns towards Josie and takes a step forward.
"Look, they won't do anything to Penelope. They just wanted to draw you out. They want the Cup and they think you have it."Josie continues to stare at Hope.
"But why do they think that? Why does anyone think that? What, my mom lies to me my entire life except, "Oh by the way, there's this magic cup, I hid on, like, the planet Bongo, but don't tell anyone." What am I supposed to do now?"Ethan responds as he walks towards the center.
"We have to report to the Clave. They have to know we've learned about Alaric."
"What, that he's my father? Great. Fine. Tell them. What good does that do to Penelope?"
"Josie, it's all connected. The vamps want the Cup." Hope says as she leans against the wall.
"Why? It makes new Shadowhunters." Josie asks confused. The siblings respond.
"Nobody wants Alaric forming an army loyal to himself."
"Plus, it controls demons."
"They'll propose a trade. Penelope for the Cup." Hope explains to her."So, vampires will trade Penelope for the Cup and Alaric will trade my mother for the Cup. Either way, I lose someone I love."
Hope looks down and licks her lips."What if I just toss it up in the air and let them fight it out among themselves?"
"So this doesn't matter to you?" Ethan asks.
"Yes, of course it matters!", Josie takes a few steps forward into Hope's direction and stops. "Listen... when you saved my life...I put my trust in you. Now, I need you to put your trust in me. I can't turn into what you are overnight."Maya nods her head. "It's true. She was raised as a mundane."
Ethan looks at his sister annoyed. "What are you, her spokesman now?"
"I don't need a spokes man, I need a plan." Josie responds as she walks away.
Hope watches her go away.————————————————————————
-Elswhere-
Penelope is pounding against a metal door.
"Hello! Anyone? I'm just an accounting student.
I have no value to anyone. And I barely saw your faces, so if you let me go, I couldn't even identify you. Not that I would, 'cause you guys are vampires! Who would believe me? I didn't even know you guys existed until yesterday!
Is anyone there?"One of the vampires opens the door and walks in. Penelope takes a few steps back until her back touches the wall.
"If your goal was to scare the crap out of me, mission accomplished! And as far as I'm concerned...you can have it out with those Shadowhunters. Especially, the auburn one.
You know, you don't need me." She shutters with fear. The vampire smirks." On the contrary, I do."
He barres his fangs.————————————————————————
-Back in the Institute-
"Look at all this stuff, these screens. I mean can any of this help me find Penelope? Where is she anyway? Some kind of crypt in Transylvania?"
Josie says as she walks towards a table with the others.
