“Lily, he's here; take the twins and run!” James yelled as he grabbed his wand, ready to defend his family. James held his own against Voldemort, hoping to give his family enough time to escape. James knew that he wouldn't make it out alive, but he was willing to make that sacrifice. James knew that sacrificing himself would add to the protection spell that Lily found to protect his children.

James fought for what he thought were hours, but it was only a few minutes. Finally, Voldemort disarmed him, “Avada Kadavra!” Voldemort hissed. James knew there was no possible way to dodge the spell, so he silently said his goodbyes to his wife and children. The last thing James saw was the image of his wife, handsome son, and his precious princess, then nothing.

Once James died, Voldemort walked upstairs to deal with the Mud-Blood and her spawn. He quickly blasted the nursery door open, where Voldemort found Lily Potter quickly setting her twins down and turned to face the evil man. She begged for their lives, and the Dark Lord gave her several chances to stand aside, but Lily didn't. The dark wizard cackled and cast the killing curse at her. The minute Lily hit the floor, the protection runes were activated.

Voldemort walked toward the crib and saw the twin babies clinging to each other and crying. He wasn't sure which child would be his downfall, but Voldemort wouldn't take any chances; he cast the Killing Curse at the children but was surprised that his curse hit and rebounded, hitting him in the chest and killing him instantly. The magical backlash was so intense that it blew a hole in the roof. Rubble falling everywhere. That was the last thing the twins remembered before passing out.

Holly Lilian and Harry James Potter woke with a start, both rubbing the scars they had on their foreheads. The ten-year-old twins looked at each other suddenly; Holly threw her blankets aside and rushed to her brother's bed. Harry lifted the covers, and his sister slid into the bed beside him. Holly and Harry held each other, and he let his sister softly cry. Harry and Holly knew that if their Aunt Petunia or Uncle Vernon heard either twin cry, they would be punished. That usually meant a beating and being thrown into the cupboard.

It wasn't unusual for the twins to have the same dreams, especially about the man with red eyes and a green light colliding with their mother and her falling, and then another one heading towards them. The twins never told a soul about their ability to share dreams. They knew it was something freakish that only they could do, and if anyone else found out, they would be severely punished.

The sun was rising by the time the twins fell asleep. Shortly after, their Aunt Petunia was banging on their door for the twins to get up and make breakfast. Today was Holly's gymnastics and ballet lessons. Even though their aunt hated them, Petunia still made Holly train as a gymnast and a ballerina. Petunia wanted her niece to be perfect and do the things that Petunia never could. Holly's aunt wanted to live vicariously through her niece. Because of that, Aunt Petunia was a slave driver to the little girl.

Holly went to her classes every day and was the best at both gymnastics and ballet. Petunia made Holly practice four hours a day after her classes; then, Holly had to help her brother with their chores. If not, they would be beaten, though Harry always tried to take the brunt of the punishment for his little sister.

While Petunia took Holly to her classes, Vernon took the boys to the zoo. He didn't want to take Harry, but sometimes, it was necessary to keep up appearances. Before they left the house, Vernon threatened Harry, “I'm warning you now, boy, any funny business and the girl will be severely punished.” Harry gasped, and Vernon smirked at him. Vernon knew the way to make Harry feel worse than a beating was by beating his sister in front of him while Dudley made Harry watch. The Dursleys quickly discovered that the best punishment for the twins was to punish the innocent twin. It hurt them more than beatings.

Harry glared at the ground but nodded; he would be on his best behavior. He got in the car's back seat, and the trio drove to the zoo. Things did not go as well as Harry had hoped. Harry wasn't sure how he did it, but he made the glass disappear in the boa constrictor's exhibit, and Dudley fell in. The amazing thing was that the snake thanked him and slithered away. When they got home, Uncle Vernon demanded an explanation.

“WHAT HAPPENED!” Uncle Vernon yelled at Harry.

“I swear I don't know! One minute, the glass was there, and the next, it was gone. It was like magic.” Harry answered, desperate for his uncle to believe him.

Vernon scowled at Harry, dragged him by the hair to his room, and threw him in, “There's no such thing as magic!” Vernon yelled, then slammed the door.

Harry sat on his bed, waiting for Holly to get home. He knew that he had messed up badly and that his sister would pay for it. When Harry heard the front door slam shut, he heard Uncle Vernon informing Aunt Petunia what had happened; he knew this was it. A few minutes later, Holly was thrown into their bedroom, where she fell to the floor. Harry rushed toward his sister and helped her to the bed. There were no visible marks on Holly; the Durselys made sure not to hit Holly anywhere visible because of her classes, but her back was fair game.

Holly laid down on her stomach while Harry uncovered her back to treat her injuries. As he did that, Harry told his sister what happened. Holly's brow furrowed as she thought about what had happened to Harry. She couldn't understand why strange things always happened to them. Sure, Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon called them Freaks, but what made them freaks? Holly wanted to know why things always happened to her and her twin.

She knew it had something to do with her parents, but Aunt Petunia was very tight-lipped about them, other than telling the twins that their dad had alcoholism and they died in a car crash. Holly didn't believe it. If they died in a car crash, why did she and Harry only end up with a scar? Something was going on, and Holly knew that her questions would be answered. She wasn't expecting the answer from an owl with a letter and Tabby Cat.
