After breakfast, the twins went back upstairs to prepare for the day. They put on their poor excuse for clothing and went downstairs. Minerva waited for the children in the parlor; she stood when she heard them come downstairs. When they entered the parlor, Minerva frowned, and her lips thinned. She didn't want to embarrass the children about their clothes; Holly's clothes were slightly more decent than Harry's.
Instead, Minerva waved her wand, making Harry's clothes fit him better. Harry looked down and smiled, “Thank you, Aunt Minnie.”
Harry knew that his clothes were in bad shape, but this was the best he had; having them shrunk to fit him tickled him pink, and he didn't mind that they looked old.
Minerva flashed Harry a brief smile, “Now if we're ready, let us go to Gringotts Bank and exchange galleons for Muggle money.”
The twins nodded and followed Minerva to the fireplace. The Transfigurations teacher explained how the floo system worked and had the twins go together. She could tell that they needed each other when faced with unknown things. Minevera told Harry to speak loudly and clearly; the twins held hands, and Harry said firmly, “Gringotts Bank!”
Holly threw the powder, and the twins disappeared in the green flames. Minerva followed shortly after. They appeared in the waiting room where all floo travelers appeared. Two Goblins were posted on either side of the fireplace; when Holly saw them, she gasped, “What are they?” Holly asked quietly.
“We are the Goblin Guards. State your business,” One of the guards answered.
Minerva stepped forward, “We are to exchange Galleons for Muggle money.”
The Goblin nodded and pointed to the door opposite the room. Minerva nodded and walked toward the door, while Holly and Harry bowed to the Goblins and thanked them for their help. The Goblin guards were surprised at how polite and respectful the little witch and wizard were. The Goblin guards bowed to the twins in return.
Once outside the floo room, Minerva walked toward the nearest bank teller. She noticed earlier how respectful and polite the children were to the goblins. Minerva decided that she should also set an excellent example for the children. When they reached the front of the queue, Minerva politely greeted the Goblin and asked him to exchange some money for her into pounds.
Once they had the money, Minerva thanked the goblin and herded the children out of the bank. It was still early in Diagon Alley, so few people were around. Minerva and the children walked into the Leaky Cauldron and Muggle London.
When they entered Muggle London, Minerva noticed that the twins were in awe of everything they saw. She realized that the children had never been anywhere in their lives. So, she decided that she would show them around London. Most people thought Minerva couldn't blend in with the Muggles, but they were wrong. Since she usually picked up the Muggleborns, Minerva ensured she didn't stick out like a sore thumb like Dumbledore.
First on the agenda was to get the twins decent clothes. They would need casual wear and, of course, winter clothes for the weather in Scotland. Minerva told the children to look around and pick out any clothes they fancied. The twins were unsure at first, always looking to Minerva for approval. But after a while, they were more comfortable and began picking out clothes they liked, though they did not split up.
Afterward, Harry picked out many clothes and a good winter jacket. After that, they went to the girl's section, and as Holly did, Harry helped his sister pick clothing that looked good on her and fit perfectly. Once they each had a pile of clothes, Minerva instructed them to choose shoes and perhaps winter boots. Now that they had everything they needed and wanted, the twins went to the dressing rooms to change into their new clothes and shoes. Minerva made sure the store charged her for the clothes they wore.
After a long shopping spree, Minerva took the twins to have lunch; their confidence that they wouldn't be punished for wanting things grew. So, when they arrived at the restaurant, the twins ordered food they were cooked but were never allowed to eat.
After lunch, Minerva decided to take Holly and Harry on a tour of London. She knew they would see everything in one afternoon, but at least they could see a few things. Minerva decided that the best place to go was the museum. She thought it would take them the rest of the afternoon to see the entire museum, and afterward, they would take the Knight Bus home, and she'd make dinner for Holly and Harry. They could go to Diagon Alley to get their school supplies another day.
