Emery seemed oddly nervous as she approached Ashley, but Ash didn't think much of it. After an exhausting hitchhike to the airport and an infuriatingly long wait, Ashley was ready to collapse.
"Hey.", Emery breathed when she was close enough for Ash to hear her. Too close, Ashley thought, feeling Emery's breath when she talked. Emery seemed to have noticed as well, since she quickly stepped back, blushing furiously.
"I mean- uh...Greetings, fellow human!" She stammered, looking away in embarrassment.
"Are you okay?" Ashley questioned, slightly concerned. Did something happen to her on the plane? Not that Ashley cared or anything.
"Yeah!" Emery squeaked a bit too quickly.
"Sure. Let's go get a hotel room for the night. I'm fucking exhausted. Please tell me you've got cash."
Emery nodded, her movement jerky. She then huffed and scurried towards the exit, leaving Ashley to hurry after her.

After getting a cab and finding the cheapest hotel they could, Ashley didn't waste anytime to get a room at the register. Emery stayed behind, imagining the cliché of only one available bed and having to share happening to them. She wasn't sure if it was something she dreaded or wished would happen.
Luckily, she did not have to worry about that since the hotel had enough beds at the ready. Soon enough, they were both sitting on their respective beds, discussing their next steps.
"How about we stay for a day or two, since we're already here? Let's have some fun."Ashley suggested.
Emery shook her head"But what about school? My parents would never allow it and your mom doesn't even know where you are! Plus, I didn't even pack enough clothes for that."
"Just one day. We can wear what we are wearing right now. Please?" Ashley pouted. Emery didn't know how they made it look cute in movies, since pouting in real life looks absolutely ridiculous. But she did want to make Ashley like her. Maybe she could sacrifice her education and her parents' approval once. And then she'd somehow try to make it up to them.
"Fine." Emery sighed, sending her parents as well as Nora's parents a quick text and turning off her phone. "You get one day."

The next morning, Emery was dragged out of bed by an excited Ashley at 8 a.m. She wasn't even allowed to satisfy her hunger at the hotel's cafeteria, because, according to Ashley, they needed to eat at a true, Austrian cafe. Whatever that meant.
They found themselves sitting in a cafe called „Café Imperial", Ashley waiting for her „Kaiserschmarrn" and Emery for her „Apfelstrudel". Both of them had absolutely no clue what they had ordered, but the pastries had seemed appealing. The waiter, a young boy who seemed to be around their age, finally came by with their orders, smiling politely. Emery caught Ashley winking at the young man and couldn't deny the pang of jealousy she felt. Stabbing her food slightly harder than necessary, she glared at the admittedly handsome waiter, who frowned and hurried off. Ashley shot her a confused look but decided against saying anything.
„You know what we should do?" Ashley asked after a few minutes of silence.
„What?" Emery grumbled, still sour about that one measly wink.
„We should go to a club tonight."
„No. No, we should not."
„Come on, it will be fun!"
