"Is something wrong, Minji?" asked Hanni, looking at Minji, who couldn't take her eyes off the portrait in front of her.
Minji barely heard Hanni's question. She was frozen in place, her gaze fixed on the portrait of Princess Haerin. Her breathing accelerated, and she felt a cold sweat running through her back. "How... ?" She murmured, her thoughts swirling in her mind.
Images of the night she met the mysterious woman came back to her memory. The woman she had dared to hug without realizing that she was the princess. Minji felt her heart racing. She remembered their conversation, the warmth of the contact, and the vulnerability that the princess showed that night. And now, before her, was the portrait of the same woman, her cold and distant expression sharp with the memory she had kept.
"Minji?" Hanni's voice was more insistent, pulling Minji from his panicked thoughts.
Minji blinked, trying to come to her senses. She slowly turned to Hanni and Hyein, who looked at her with growing concern. "I'm fine, don't worry," she says, trying to reassure them. She knew it was better not to alarm them any further. "Shall we continue the tour?"
Hyein nodded enthusiastically, while Hanni gave Minji one last peep before doing the same. The trio resumed their walk through the halls of the academy, Minji trying to focus on what Hyein was explaining about the different rooms and activities.
However, as they advanced, Minji couldn't help but take a last look at the portrait of Princess Haerin. The princess's piercing eyes seemed to follow her movements, and Minji felt a shiver run through her spine. She wondered how she might one day approach this subject with the princess, if the opportunity arose.
The corridors were busy, filled with students coming and going, discussing their classes and projects. Minji tried to immerse herself in the atmosphere, to be carried away by the energy and enthusiasm that prevailed around her. Hyein continued to speak vividly, showing the classrooms, library and sports facilities, describing every detail with contagious passion.
When the three friends arrived at a set of lockers, Hanni turned around to look at Minji. "Your locker is probably inside with your uniform. Change, and we'll wait here," she said with a smile.
Minji nodded, taking a deep breath before entering the locker room. Inside, she found a row of lockers, each bearing a student's name. After searching for a few moments, she finally found hers.
Opening the metal door, she discovered an impeccably folded uniform. She took out the various pieces a white shirt, a pleated skirt, a blazer with the academy's emblem, and a pair of shoes. As she changed, she couldn't help but think about everything that awaited her in this new life. The worries about her mother, the mysterious encounter with the princess-all of it weighed heavily on her shoulders.
