A young man strolled along the bustling, grimy street, his hands tucked into his pockets. The purple sun cast an orange glow over the towering skyscrapers that lined the avenues. Flying cars zipped past, each one a blur of motion. He hoped the next street crew would take him in. He had lost his job a little over a week ago, and his savings were dwindling rapidly.
At last, he reached a clearing beside a rundown building. He stood tall, scanning his surroundings, waiting for one of the members to greet him. His father's old jacket hugged his shoulders, the only comfort he had ever known.
After only a few minutes, a grungy-looking sleazebag walked out.
Sleazebag: "State your name, boy."
Young man: "I go by Grift."
Sleazebag: "What brings you here? This isn't a playground. You here to buy? You sure you have the money?"
Grift: "I'm looking for work."
The man smiled as he raised a hand, and five other figures emerged from the surrounding buildings like cockroaches.
Sleazebag: "We have all the help we need right here. I know you came all the way out here, so allow us to reward you for your efforts. We won't torture you before we kill you."
With that, the man waved his hand, and the other gang members drew their guns. Grift quickly assessed his surroundings. The members were flanking him on all sides. In a flash, Grift pulled out his firearm and fired off rapid shots before his enemies could even take aim.
His precision was deadly. Four of them were disarmed in an instant, their weapons clattering to the ground. The fifth took a bullet to the head, collapsing lifelessly on the spot.
Grift: "Looks like you have an opening. I believe I'm worth at least ten of your goons, but I'm sure you don't want to test that theory. Pop always told me to only take what I needed."
The man turned around just in time to see Grift reload his gun in under a second. The goons looked at the man in the cloak, who smiled and gave one of them a look, silently urging him to try and take Grift out again.
The second the goon reached for his gun, Grift fired a shot that hit him squarely in the head, dropping him instantly.
Sleazebag: "Well, seeing as we now have an opening, I'll take you to see the boss."
Grift followed the suspicious man deep into the dilapidated office building. Tables and chairs were strewn about, and the place looked like it had been picked clean. They approached an elevator, and the man used his spindly finger to push a button. With barely a sound, the elevator doors opened, revealing an interior kept in perfect condition, unlike the rest of the building. The walls of the elevator were made of solid gold.
Grift stepped inside, following the man as he pressed another button. Once the doors closed, the man took off his mangled cloak, revealing a very fancy business suit adorned with gold embellishments.
