Lost In The Fire [C.L]

Chaper 5

Hazel's POV

"Press conference at 2 PM, don't forget," I hear Sandra, my assistant, say as I enter the paddock.

What do you do when you set fire to your house and you're in it? You run, escape, watch your house burn down. You move on, get a new house, and forget. One day, that fire will catch up, and once it does, you realize you're lost, searching for a way out. Life is the same; you can't escape the fire you set. Even if you manage to run, it will catch up and slowly burn you.

That's how I feel with Charles. I tried to run, to forget the hurt and the anger. Yesterday, reality faced me and caught up. I feel the fire approaching, ready to engulf me.

"Yes, press conference at 2 PM, got it."

"Welcome to the press conference in Zandvoort. Joining me are Max Verstappen, the home favorite; Lewis Hamilton; Carlos Sainz; Lando Norris; and the one replacing Esteban Ocon for the moment, the first woman in Formula 1 in a long time, Hazel Sinclair. Welcome," I hear Felipe Massa starting the conference.

"I will start with a question for Hazel. So, as the only female driver, do you think it will be more of a challenge to be part of the grid, and do you think it will take more to accomplish a good result as a female?"

I smile at the question, take the mic in my hand, and think of an answer.

"Well, it depends. If I get welcomed not only by the drivers but everyone around, no, it will not be a challenge to be part of the grid. And for your information, I am a part of the grid since I'm driving this weekend. To achieve the best result, it doesn't matter if you are male or female; you just have to be a good driver."

I answer politely, despite the tone of the question.

"Thank you. The next question goes to Max."

The conference is finished as we walk out of the room. I meet the eyes I don't want to see. Charles.
