Blair POV.
The next morning, when I wake up, George has already left. Speranza is lying on the other side of the bed, sucking on her finger and smiling at me. I give her a kiss, get up, and start brushing my hair.
My bangs have grown long, but I don't want to cut them, so I pick up a hairpin from the dressing table and pin my hair back.
Whether it's a natural trait for girls to love beauty or not, Speranza watches me intently without blinking while I brush my hair.
I see her expression through the dressing table mirror, pick her up, and bring her to the dressing table. I choose a smaller hairpin for her and clip it on top of her head. Speranza giggles out loud.
Then my phone rings. Barbara is calling, saying I don't need to worry about the recruitment anymore.
"Why?"
"A handsome guy came to apply today. You wouldn't believe it, our receptionists' eyes were sparkling when they saw him."
"Don't exaggerate," I say, while fixing Speranza's hair.
"Yes, and he is not only handsome, but also excellent, capable at work, well connected, and well-funded. With him, our company will definitely move to a higher level."
"Is it really that good?" I ask. "But our company's salary is not high. Barbara, is he still single? If not, you can seduce him and make him your boyfriend. In this way, he will definitely not leave."
"No," Barbara replies.
"Is he married? Or is his orientation towards men?" I ask.
"Neither," she draws out her words on the phone, "because he is your fiancé."
"..."
I suddenly feel a blackout.
George went out in the morning for this?!
He doesn't come back until the afternoon. I'm on the couch in the living room with my laptop, and when I see him, I turn my gaze back to the screen.
"How's the baby?" he asks.
"Sleeping in the bedroom," I answer, and don't say another word to him.
Dinner is beef burgundy. I take a bite of the beef and ask, "Did you start working at my company?"
"Yes, I've already signed the contract and am officially employed."
I swallow the beef, looking down without meeting his eyes: "I'm going to Country B."
George asks, "What about the baby?"
"I'll take her with me."
George pauses and says, "You've had poor health since childhood; you can't endure long journeys."
"My health is poor? Then how was the baby born?" I put down the knife and fork, frowning at him: "Do you have to control whatever I do?"
The more I think about it, the more upset I get. I lose my appetite, toss the napkin, and go upstairs.
A few minutes later, the servant knocks on the door, wanting to bring in a new beef burgundy. I say there's no need, and then fall asleep.
I haven't woken up from a dream in a long time.
When I open my eyes, it's still night. The moon is bright, and the courtyard's flowers and leaves rustle lightly. As I move, the arm around my waist tightens slightly. Warm breath touches the back of my neck.
George is holding me from behind, his tall, solid body making my limbs warm.
I look at George's hand in the darkness. His palm is wide, fingers long, gently wrapping around my hand.
