catching up

october had so easily slipped from him as he knew november would do as well. he'd passed by many people chittering once about costumes and candy and getting the night off so they could watch the oldest horror flick possible, and those conversations shifted from excitement to a little dulled. spending so much on candy or taking the night or two off, parties that had made your night now made your week miserable.

the leaves crunching beneath his feet remind him of the time, as if he wasn't already aware.

he didn't like taking his car everywhere, not around this time, he sort of welcomed the chill. though, with halloween being a big fiasco, he made an effort to drive down to his family and spent three days there, made tommy happier than he'd been over at his apartment.

which, considering everything that happened in between, was a good thing. at least with tommy, he could do something right, and when phil and techno give him a hug at the same time, he doesn't know how to hold his tears in.

he spent three nights there and each one had meals made with love, made with everyone's love touching the core of it, made everyone feel full, not just from the food, but the company around. he knew, in his heart, this was where he was meant to be.

this is home.

he'd once thought home was with you, but burning that bridge by himself, he didn't know if he'd actually see you again. if he deserved to at all.

no, he wouldn't dwell on it too much, not until he got home. if he wasn't careful enough, tears would leak from his eyes and he'd have to deal with that in public, and hell knows he can barely handle the public. but no, he had plans and he had to stick with them, he promised he would. a gust of wind breaks him free of his mind, though he shivers.

the new jacket isn't as warm as his old one, one that he hadn't gotten back from... well he'd lost it essentially, and this new one just isn't getting him warm. maybe he wasn't wearing enough layers or he needed something else like a hoodie underneath this one. still, he keeps walking, keeps walking and stepping on the leaves, finding a successful crunch now and then.

the sidewalk is littered with the crunchy leaves until he takes a look up and away from the concrete to look for a particular pub, the one they'd be meeting at.

he finds it across the street and after almost getting run over trying to cross, he adjusts the new beanie on his head, breathing out and in the new, warm air inside the pub. he finds a familiar head of pink hair and a stoic expression by the back, but upon making eye contact, he receives a wide smile with the cool eyes to match, waving him over.

he'd found it weird that techno was in his city instead of being at home but nonetheless, he wasn't going to deny his brother a chance to catch up. even if he'd seen him barely a week before.

leaning down to give his brother a quick, side hug, he is greeted with a strong hold around his shoulders, squeezing just a little before he lets go. and wilbur takes a seat across from him, his hair straightened and left down.

"so, what made you decide we should hit the town, huh?" will does his best to smile and be corny, but techno takes it in stride, shrugging with a quiet smile.

"oh you know, i was in town and i knew you lived around this area, and thought it would be a good idea, i don't know, plus, i think there's some things you wanted to talk about that you couldn't do with phil or tommy. and who am i except a loving brother?"

he hums, remembering the one time they were alone.

they were making dinner while phil got onto tommy's case about his attendance again, and at one point, he stared at his brother's back as he stirred the pot of boiling pasta, for almost three minutes he stared. he had a question he wanted to ask but... but he didn't know how to say it and when tommy inevitably crashed back into the kitchen to complain about dinner, he stopped trying altogether. he was surprised techno managed to catch that, but seeing we're talking about his brother, he's not that surprised.
