So there's this series of movies from the early 2000s called creature features. They took names from 50's B movies, and named their movie it. There's one called earth vs the spider (2001) and it has the same name as the 50's Earth vs the spider. The original one has a cult following. But Earth vs the spider (2001) CAN'T BE FOUND ON ANY STREAMING SERVICE. So, I bought a used copy off of Amazon.
So basically it's about a comic book nerd who injected himself with a syringe so he can turn himself into a super hero kinda like spider man (or arachnid man in this movie). But instead of turning into a hero, he slowly transforms into a spider-human hybrid.
It's kinda like a mix of David Cronenberg's the fly and spider man. It's kinda like the Fly because it's a man turning into a bug and it's like spider man because it's a man with spider powers.
This movie came out a year before the Tobey Maguire spider man, and some of it's scenes are similar to it.
I thought it was a good horror film that had good practical effects. The only problem I have with it is it didn't have the budget to show the transformation happening, so they used really bad CGI for it. But the effects for after the transformation is really good. Also the main character's acting is not that good.
Something really shocking is that one thing that explains why the practical effects are good is because the person who did it is the legendary Stan Winston. If you don't recognize the name (somehow), he did the effects for alien (1978) Jurassic park, the first two Terminators, and so much more. So he's basically a legend in the effects department.
This is one of the effects he did in the movie.
Also, they got the legendary Dan Aykroyd to play the detective. Just search him up, I bet you've seen a movie he's in.
Also, they made figurines for each of the creatures in the creature feature films.
I'm going to buy this at some point, and I'm going to post it on here when I get it.
The back shows the other film's figures as well.
This movie is pretty rare, but nowhere as rare as the next one
