"You don't have to do this." Callan said for the third time since Dimitri texted.
"Cal, don't worry. I'll be okay. If he wanted to hurt me, he would have when we first met." I reminded him, putting my hand on his jaw.
He hasn't trimmed his facial hair in a few days, and it scraped against my palm.
"Not gonna' lie. I like this" I said with a smile as I ran my thumb over what was usually only slightly more than a five o'clock shadow.
Callan's large hand wrapped around mine and he pressed a kiss to my palm.
"Flattering me won't get me off the subject."
"Can't say that I didn't try." I shrugged.
"I'll be right there with you. Okay."
"I know."
"He'll be in a ring of..."
"Holy fire, I know. Callan, please stop worrying. If I'm not worried, you shouldn't be."
"I'll never stop worrying, Harper. That and protecting you and Cameron are the two things you can't ask me to stop doing."
"Okay." I nodded as he laced his fingers with mine.
We met Fin outside of the safehouse where he was waiting for Gabriel to escort Dimitri in.
"You ready?" Fin asked me.
Before I could reply, the man from the diner stood before us with Gabriel
"Harper, it's good to see you again..." He greeted, then looked at Fin and Callan. "Fin, Callan..." He stated simply with a quick nod.
"Wish I could say the same." I bit out and immediately felt guilty for it.
"Oh...I like her. She's got some bite." He looked me up and down, nodding his head in approval. "You two are perfect for each other." Dimitri said to Callan.
"From the devil's mouth..." Fin murmured.
"Let's get this shit show over with." Callan ignored their comments.
Fin, and Gabriel flanked each side of Dimitri, while Callan followed closely behind him. I stayed a safe distance away as Callan pleaded for me to after he got Dimitri's text.
Dimitri made small talk with the angels as we made our way into the safehouse. It was mainly office gossip that we all tuned out. I was sure that he was trying to bug the hell out of us.
When we got to the living room, I prayed that we wouldn't run into my son and Tricia. Tricia had stayed to keep Cameron busy because Gabriel didn't have time to drop them off at her place, because he had to meet with Michael and discuss the Vatican non-issue before he met up with Dimitri.
My prayer fell on deaf ears as my son came barreling out of the hallway and right into Callan.
"Damn it!" I swore under my breath.
Where was God when you needed him?
"Where's Tricia?" I asked, panic coming through my words.
Cameron didn't answer, instead he smiled at Dimitri. "Who's he?"
"Dimitri Kane, and you are?" Dimitri asked.
"Don't talk to him," Callan growled lowly and scooped Cameron up.
He grabbed my hand and pulled us further away from the cambion.
"Little-Man, you're supposed to stay with your aunt." Callan said, tearing his eyes away from Dimitri and leaning back to look at Cameron.
