• EVERLEIGH •
I walk into the breakfast hall that morning feeling the eyes of every servant on me. I couldn't care less about what they thought, I just eat in silence at the end of an empty table.
I don't care when Nolan moves to sit across from me, a boyish smile painting his face. My face was only puffy, my eyes were only bloodshot red, the look on my face couldn't be any more clear that I wanted nothing to do with anyone.
"Alive?" He says, raising an eyebrow at me jokingly. I look up at him, taking a big bite out of the bread in my hand.
I don't answer him.
"You think the staring is bad? Wait until the stewardess finds you alive-" Nolan gets cut off by the evil wretch who had stormed up to the table and yanked the bread out of my hands.
"The king excused your behavior?" She scowls, clearly showing her disliking towards me. I clench my hand into a fist, hating the feeling of everyone watching me. They were all growing suspicious, questioning every minute of my being since arriving at the castle.
"Yes." I say blankly, hoping my lack of an answer would shut her up enough to leave me alone. Unfortunately, I had to face the hard truth that having every servant suspicious of me was not ideal for my own sake.
Especially when those suspicions could spread to people in the palace I wanted nothing to do with, like the queen dowager.
I knew I had to say something to save myself so before the stewardess can run her mouth any longer I cut her off.
I physically have to force the words out of mouth.
"The king has his own needs, fortunately I'm capable enough to satisfy them." I say loud enough for everyone to hear. My face nearly cringes at the words that leave my mouth but I hold back for the sake of myself.
The stewardess looks taken aback, her face burning a raging red as she looks at me.
It wasn't unheard of, plenty of palace workers and nobility slept with rogues, mostly rogues who worked at gentleman clubs for the wealthy.
I give her a tight lipped smile before letting it leave my face just as quick. I look at Nolan who watches me with a frozen face, his lips slightly parted in shock.
Before anyone speaks another word I get up, fully aware of the now judging eyes on me. I leave the breakfast hall and head straight to the new tasks I was now assigned in the palace.
Scrubbing the tiles.
I comply, only because I wanted nothing to do with anymore suspicions. I had enough of the constant stares and gossip circling the palace of me.
