Dear Wattpad,

This novel is a mesh of many different influences. Since I was a little girl, I've always had an [unhealthy?] infatuation with vampires. And since I was a little girl, I've always painfully struggled with my identity.

In a world full of blonde hair, fair skinned, and blue-eyed female protagonists, especially in the fantasy and paranormal romance circles, the subtle message seems to be that girls who don't fit that mold don't get to have their stories told. I'm thinking of stories like Buffy, The Vampire Slayer, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Vampire Diaries, and Twilight. All books/shows I deeply enjoyed but always had to put myself in their lens, their skin, their point of view while unwittingly shedding my own.

I suppose that's why when I set out to start my own paranormal, black girl magic story, it was important to me that diversity play a huge role on each page.

However, while I have researched to the best of my ability, and have asked for feedback from friends on certain aspects of culture, religion, and language in this story, I know it is far from perfect. My intention isn't to offend or pass off anything as the final edit. This story has been through countless edits and I imagine more to come. And while I have taken several creative liberties, especially with the Yoruba faith, if you see anything potentially offensive or misleading, please feel free to reach out to me through Instagram messages (since we no longer have DMs). My info is located in my bio.

I am excited to upload a chapter a week until this story is complete. To share this with anyone who will read it, is an honor and I am appreciative of each comment and vote! I also love to respond to my readers, so don't be shy!

Thank you for stopping by and if you've made it this far in the author's note, YOU ROCK!
