When Robin figures out that Ted found that locket and not Barney and it becomes clear to her who she should be with:
Ted's POV:
"I should be with you" Robin says breathing heavily.
There it was. I waited so long to hear those words but right now listening to them felt unreal. It was like in those seconds I was imagining what my life would be if I said yes. I would be with Robin and that's all I wanted but that would leave Barney devastated. If I said no then Robin and Barney will marry and maybe have a successful marriage. It was just like that Robert Frost poem for me.
"Are you okay, Ted? What is your decision?" Robin asked and I decided to be selfish for once.
"Yes, I will be with you but not like this. We have to do this in a way that doesn't shatter Barney forever" I replied and we both sat down.
Barney's POV after he saw what the condition of Marshall and Lily was:
What if Robin and me end up like Marshall and Lily? Wait Robin can't have children, we'll be fine. But what if I am not ready to get married and settled down? Ted always comes through for Robin and he's always Robin's first thought when she's in crisis. Am I ruining my chance of Robin to be with Ted and both of them having a very successful marriage? Do I even love Robin?
Third POV:
Barney decided to talk to Robin and Ted and Robin decided to talk to Barney and all 3 bumped in the hallway.
"I think you need to sit down for this" Ted said to Barney.
"Okay let's go to my room" Barney said.
All of them went to Barney's room and sat down.
Robin started shakily, "Barney, I love you. I love you with all my heart and soul. You are a good guy and the best wingman ever. But I don't think I can marry you. I don't think you are the guy for me. Me and Ted have a long history. And you know I don't believe in this universe crap but when Ted found the locket I know the universe was giving me the sign that Ted is the right guy for me. I wanna marry Ted, Barney. Please give us your blessings."
"I am so sorry buddy but the heart wants what it wants. But we won't do it without your blessing." Ted said unsurely.
Barney smiled, "Earlier I realized that I am not ready to leave my lifestyle. Not everyone can settle down and have a quiet life. My blessings are with you, kids."
They all hugged but then remembered that they didn't tell Marshall and Lily anything.
Barney proposed, "You guys tell them everything and I'll call Ranjit and tell him to get the limo and tell the bar and band to keep the guests drunk and busy."
Ted and Robin tell Marshall and Lily everything and Barney does his job and they meet at the limo. They all sit side by side and Marshall and Lily give Barney a tight hug.
"I'm alright, guys. Besides now I can hit on girls and we'll make Ted and Robin's wedding legen wait for it dary" They all clinked their glasses and Barney told Ranjit to take them to the lake.
"Wait, why are we going to the lake?" Ted asked.
"To make your wedding legendary and no more questions" Barney replied.
They reach the lake and see a yatch. Robin and Ted look at the yatch then at Barney.
"This was supposed to be a surprise for after the wedding but I guess it was destined to serve for Ted and Robin's wedding" Barney said with a smile on his face.
Ted and Robin hug Barney again and tears well up in Robin's eyes.
"Don't cry, Robin. Your make up will be ruined." Barney said laughing.
"I can't stop feeling guilty" Robin said with a red nose.
"Robin, you know, I know, I think everybody here knows that marriage won't work for me and you would just be wasting your time with me so let's go and get you married." Barney replied with a big smile on his face.
They all get on a yatch and see a minister standing there.
"Wait, how did a minister get here?" Ted asked.
"Well when our minister died, RIP Reverand, I called my minister guy, yes I have a minister guy, and he sent him." Barney replied with a straight face.
"Thank you so much Barney for everything, I mean it." Ted said and hugged him. Barney hugged him back and said,"Take care of her". "I will" Ted replied.
Then the minister got Ted and Robin married on the yatch in the middle of the lake with a beautiful sunset.
"Minister will you take a picture of us?" Lily asked and gave the minister a disposal camera.
The minister clicked the picture and the camera panned in showing that picture and when it panned out the whole gang was sat in the Mclauren's bar 20 years later looking at that same picture.
"I can't believe we were ever that young and reckless ever." Lily said.
"Well speak for yourself because I am still that young and reckless." Barney said and ran after a girl half his age.
The gang laughed and clinked their beers to continuing their friendship for eternity.
