Chapter 1

PRESENT DAY - 2042

"Hun! Get up!" Callie exclaims, shaking Cameron awake.

"What? What!?" He gets up, a little panicked. "What's wrong? Is there an intruder?"

"What? No. Today is Saturday, we have to take the kids to the park. It's the deal we made with them when it was sunny and it was summer time." Callie relieves him. "But, we kinda have to get up soon. It's already 11AM."

"Wait, it's 11 already? I don't even think we were up that late last night."

"Cameron, you're a heavy sleeper. I just made a perfect example by having to shake you awake."

"Yeah, fair."

Cameron rustles his hair a little, rubbing under his visor and his cheeks. He stretches and gets out of bed, wearing comfy plaid PJ pants and a white tank top. One thing seems to have changed, a tattoo on the back of his arm with his wife's name on it. He yawns briefly, walking to the door.

"Before I open the door, would you like anything? Coffee, breakfast, anything specific?"

"No, I'm good. Besides, I'm coming out there with you."

"Heh, alright. If that changes, you know that I'm always available." He flicks his visor, chuckling and walking out. Callie gets up out of bed, looking at her dresser and opening it. She is a little surprised by what she sees.

"Aww, he bought me the ruby necklace I've wanted!" She gets out of bed, changing into a white shirt with a red flannel tied to her waist, as well as some jean shorts and sneakers. She then puts on the necklace, combing out her blond hair and walking out of the room.

As she walks out of the room and looks to the left, she sees Cameron with their child, Fiona, at his feet. Fiona is only two years old, the youngest in the family. Callie looks to the right, Dave and Jacob watching cartoons on the TV while eating breakfast. Jacob is the oldest, five years old and going on six. Dave is the middle child, about four years old. However, their family did have a few kinks in the sheets per say, as Jacob was diagnosed with ADHD around a year ago. Instead of taking medicine though, Callie decided on letting him get his energy out during the day, and if he can't sleep at night, melatonin was given. Callie then looked at Dave with a concerning look. Dave is not a talker. He just points at what he wants or needs, and nobody really knows why. He was tested for autism and other conditions, including selective mutism, but all of them turned out negative. There was only one other thing that could have caused him to not want to talk, and it would have to be aphasia. Dave receives special care everyday, and Callie is also concerned about what is going to happen school-wise. Then, there's little Fiona. She is a quick learner, and certainly knows how to get everyone's attention, whether it be good or bad. Nothing seems to be wrong at all, not that any of the kids have anything wrong with them, but just things that need special attention.

Callie walks over to Cameron, giving him a kiss on the cheek while picking up Fiona.

"I saw the gift you left in my dresser. I think it's beautiful. You know I love Ruby."

"Yeah, that's why I got it for you. Plus, I like seeing you happy." He smiles, checking her out subtly. He turns back to the stove, cooking some eggs and brewing fresh coffee. That's when Jacob comes walking in, holding up his plate.

"May I--uh--HAVE more eggs?" Jacob stutters, trying to speak proper English.

"You sure can!" Cameron turns to Jacob, giving him some more scrambled eggs. "A lot of protein makes for a strong person!"
