Two days later
"Yes? This is Rodrigues," Amber answered the phone.
"Agent Louis speaking here, we looked at the clothes on the scene. B and M found on the tag. They really do know how to leave a mark." Blake chuckled, explaining what he had found.
Truth is, she wasn't able to work on the case because of the one thing she feared.. lack of evidence. Luckily, not stupid reasoning. To her everything was reasonable. Reasonable enough for her to pull a grin when she heard that the their mark was found. But why the governors evidence? What did they want? They were killers, who had been thought to kill for fun, not for an actual motive. That's why the FBI had rejected her proposal to the case so often. once more, lack of reasoning.
"That's great. My hunch was right then. Where can I get the evidence?" She bothered.
"No need, I'm outside your offices door." He said, hanging the phone up as she looked up through the glass wall. He was, and she had to say Agent Louise was a fine man. He looked like he was a running back in his earlier days. Not bad for a middle aged man.
"Come right in." She sighed, smiling.
"Hope I'm not interrupting anything. Here's what you asked for." He said, handing her the plastic bag with the shirt tag marked 'B.M.' She took the evidence, and scanned it.
"You're not. I really appreciate you taking the time to scan for my case. You busy tonight?" She asked.
"Well, not if you're suggesting something." He laughed, and she did too.
"I gotta repay you somehow. How's dinner sound?" She proposed. Even though Agent Louise was a hell of a handsome man, he wasn't exactly her type. But she would never be humble enough to accept something without payment.
"Sounds great. Text me the details?"
"Sure. Dress nicely," she winked, watching him leave the office. I thought I was about to suffocate. Loorrdd. Cologne way too strong for her taste.
She took the evidence back to her desk and sat, comparing to the photos of her aunts murder. She noticed a few things. First off the signature. It wasn't the same person as last time. And the second thing, the placement. Instead of sharpie on the collar, it was the tag. Why? She shook her head, and opened her phone, texting Agent Louise the details about dinner. Amber really didn't want to, but there was one more thing she wanted to ask him.
Later that evening, at the restaurant, Amber and Agent Louis sat down, the ambiance a mix of soft lighting and low chatter.
"Thanks for meeting me, Blake," Amber began, trying to get comfortable.
"My pleasure. So, what else did you want to talk about?" Blake asked, leaning in slightly.
"Amber took a deep breath, deciding to get straight to the point. "Blake, have you noticed any links between these killings and any known political figures or events? Something beyond the usual motives?"
"Blake raised an eyebrow, considering her question. "That's a good question. We know these killers have a reputation for randomness, but hitting the governor's office does seem more calculated. Why do you ask?"
"Amber leaned forward, her voice dropping slightly. "The change in their signature, the placement of the tag instead of the collar—it feels like they're sending a message. And if they're targeting political figures or events, it could mean there's something much bigger at play."
