*flashback*
29 years after Himmel the Hero's passing (103 years before Mashle story) in the Northern Lands, Kühl Region
"So that's Äuberst, the largest city of magic in the Northern Lands." A young soldier looks over the cliff, where a city surrounded by water can be in view.
"It's still pretty far off, so we need to catch a coach or something along the way." says a certain elven mage.
"Once you obtain the qualification to be a first-class mage, we'll be able to enter the Northern Plateau right?" asks a young purple-haired mage.
"I don't think it necessarily has to be me who gets the certification though, it'll become invalid soon enough for me anyway. Why don't you get it?" the elf suggests as she trails ahead as her party members follow.
"Don't you know mistress Frieren? Only a select few mages can obtain a first-class certification. It's almost impossible for someone like me." she says to her mentor in low confidence.
Frieren simply hums in understanding, fully indicating that she doesn't seem very interested.
"I should've asked before but...why do we need such an incredible mage to enter the Northern Plateau?" the redhead asks.
"It's because the Northern Plateau is infested with monsters that use sly magic. It's too dangerous, you can't pass through without a priest or a skilled mage..." the mage explains.
As the trio travel to their destination on a merchant's carriage, Frieren states that she will have to do more research on the exam when they arrive in the city.
"From what Fern has told me, there will be tests of combat. So I will have to think of how I will approach those as well." the mage contemplates.
"No matter what kind of exam it may be, with your mana, passing should be a breeze, right?" Fern asks.
Frieren simply sighs and after an exchange that leaves the young companions confused.
"Let me tell you this Fern, mana is not the only thing that determines a mage's skill. Technique, experience, the spells you use, and how you handle them, effort and willpower, and talent..." you pause, looking at the moving scenery as you get closer and closer to the city, "I have lost to mages with weaker mana than mine 11 times in my life. Four of them were demons, one of them was an elf like me, and the remaining six...were humans."

Third POV
The party of visionaries watch y/n from afar and await for the moment to make a move. But for now, it seems as though it is still a bit difficult to do. The visionaries continue to stare at the girl who is currently surrounded by townspeople, not exactly knowing why.
"We should wait until she has left the village, there shouldn't be any interferences at that state." Orter states.
The visionaries agree to focus on capturing y/n later. For now, they go their separate ways to have some leisure time.
Sophina POV
I decided to walk around the town to get myself familiar with the environment along with Orter, Ryoh, and Tsurara.
'I'm glad we got some time to get some rest and wash up.'
"Hey, have you heard that the last great mage, Frieren, has stopped by the village?"
