Star's POV
"Thanks! Please come back!",
I sweetly say as I bid goodbye to our customers. They dropped by the cafe where I work to grab something to eat. I really like the couple. They have been together for almost 50 years and you can really see the glimmers in their eyes as they hold each other's hand. I think they've already withstood all the major storms in their lives. They have grown grey hairs but their love for each other remains vibrant. I sigh, thinking what will become of me 40 years from now. Will I become an old woman living with 20 cats in her nice and cozy house, doing nothing but gardening or will I end up with someone for the rest of my life? I think the former is more likely. I've never dated anyone in my 20 years of nerdy existence. Suddenly, I am snapped out of my trance. Somebody pokes my cheek with a finger.
"Hey! Not again, missy."
A bright voice piercers through my ear. She sits beside me and playfully taps my backs. Introducing Erin, a beauty queen in the making. I never really thought that she's gonna stick with me. She is popular in our school and she is drop dead gorgeous. Well, I'm basically the nerdy type while she is athletic and boys just drool over her. She's an epitome of grace while I clumsily do things. Total opposites.
"I, uhm you know just making sure that the table is...clean. Yeah, see?"
I try to sound casual. She nonchalantly shrugs her shoulders and raises an eyebrow.
"Really? In planet earth we call it day dreaming."
I roll my eyes at her sarcasm. Her lips purse, she tries to say something.
"What?"
She averts my gaze, a blush creeps up her cheeks. She's just so adorable, and it makes me cringe at the thought. I know there's something she wanna tell me.
"Well, you see. Somebody asked me out and...I want to impress him. And I don't know how."
I try to muster the words but they just won't come out. For goodness' sake! She need not impress the boys! They do it for her! This guy must be someone.
"Star, I think I'm in love..."
She plays with her hair. Her face turns crimson red. She giggles. I think I just heard her giggle! Oh. My. God. She can't be serious.
"Seriously, Erin? Ok, rewind...let me tell you a story about a girl who met a douche bag and she said to her bestfriend that she's in love...afterwards, the bastard broke her heart. Flash news: she almost died of crying."
I try to look convincing, crossing my arms over my chest. She glares at me. Those daggers could kill me. I gulp. She is indeed serious.
"Star, I thought you'll support me this time!" she half yells.
"Erin, look...you can't just say you're in love with someone whom you just met for...?"
I raise an eyebrow and make a questioning face, gesturing her to answer the question.
"For 2 days..." she says calmly yet with confidence and conviction.
"For 2 days...what?!? 2 days? You're mad, woman." I almost choke. She only knew this guy for just 2 freaking days and she says she's in love. Great. Just great. I need to ready my shoulder. It will be used as a crying shoulder for a month or more. She bawled her eyes out for months when she found out that the jerk was dating our English teacher. Neat, eh?
"He asked me out. He gave me three roses and then we kissed and..."
She happily says.
"Whoa, whoa. Drop it dude."
I fake gag. She elbows me playfully. She then stands up and bolts towards the kitchen.
"I'm gonna call you later, bestie. Ciao!"
Erin said with a wide smile plastered on her face. I return a warm smile.
"Rock on..."
Suddenly, the door opens. It reveals a guy (just look at his picture lol) with an aura as strong as a supertyphoon. He enters the café with such confidence. He turns to me, stares at me like I'm some kind of an unusual animal. He sits on the chair adjacent to mine. I quickly stand and ask him politely, with a fake smile. There's something about him that ticks me off.
"Hello sir. What can I get you?"
I ask, trying not to frown. He looks at me from head to toe. Is he checking me out? What a creep.
"Do you think I'm checking you out?"
He nonchalantly asks. His eyes are fixated on me. My smile instantly drops. Ok, someone remind me that he's a customer.
"Excuse me?"
Well, I actually think that he is checking me out but boy, he's got the nerve to actually ask that one million dollar question.
"Be my girlfriend."
He states without any emotions. My jaw slacks and I swear I could have fallen if not because of the table. Butterflies flutter in my stomach in an annoyingly good way. What the hell is this feeling?
"S-sir, I'm afraid I don't know what y-you're talking about..."
Great. Now I stutter. My head is haywire and my heart just pounds really fast. Yeah Star. It's ok to faint right here, right now. This is just too much! And I think I am blushing! Shit, I curse under my breath. A smirk is playing on his face. Oh, he has a pearly white set of teeth. His dreamy eyes suck me in.
"You're tomato red, uhm...Star."
There's no way he'll know my name. Is he stalking me?
"How did you..."
He points a finger at the left side of my chest. Then it dawns on me that I am actually wearing a name tag. I mouth an O and I mentally face palm. How can I be so stupidly...uhm stupid? I can't think straight anymore. I'm hopeless.
