Mosaics & Immortality
I braid my hair exactly how my friend taught me.
I curve my b's like my friend does.
I like the smell of coffee because it reminds me of her.
I learnt ancient history because she liked hearing about it.
I learnt the meaning of flowers from a friend.
I first listened to rock because she liked it.
I learnt how to do my makeup from a girl on the internet.
I learnt to love space because my father loved it first.
I have my mother's eyes and my father's nose.
I am a mosaic of everyone and everything I have ever loved no matter how brief it is.
What do you mean when you say you aren't immortal ?
One day I will teach my daughter how to braid her hair.
I will teach my son how to write b's like my friend who I haven't seen since 5th grade used to do.
I will make coffee one day and think about her.
I will tell stories of ancient history to my children's friends.
I will send flowers to my lover knowing the hidden meanings.
I will go to a rock concert and dance with a stranger.
I will do my daughter's makeup for a school dance exactly how she taught me.
My friends will look up to the stars and remember my love for it not knowing it grew from a root of my father's love.
My great-grandchildren will have my eyes and nose that I once hated not knowing it's been given to me by a long line of people who had been loved.
I want to be remembered for the things I loved.
Maybe one day a stranger will listen to a rock song on the radio and remember me, a girl she danced with at a concert, long after I'm gone.
