Kite

I sip my hot chocolate. It's amazing.

"Who made this?" I ask Dove.

"Phoenix, most likely." She shrugs, not looking up from her phone.

"Ah." I say. I look over at where he's staring at me from the till. Phoenix seemed the interesting sort, but I knew he wouldn't do anything. He could stare at me all he wanted, all I really cared about was if he would ask me for an autograph at this point.

Obviously I'd say no.

I cast my eyes away from Phoenix and glance at Dove. Her hair frames her face as she sips her drink and scrolls on her face.

I still can't believe I made her laugh. I never thought that would ever happen. And she smiled at me in the library. A small one, but a smile is a smile.

She also caught me, staring at her bum, which I'm very embarrassed and ashamed about.

I'd rather not think about that.

I didn't know what was happening. I was dreading working with Dove in the assembly, but now-

I don't think I mind so much.

I finish my drink, and look at Dove, who's also finished.

She looks at me.

I look back.

I cough. "Should we make a start?" I needed to stop coughing awkwardly around her.

Dove waves the idea away with her hand. "We have 2 months. We have plenty of time."

"We have 2 months for a reason." I argue. Although, to be honest, one day didn't seem to be much of a difference for me.

Dove gives me a look. "We both know you don't want to do anything today. Don't argue with me."

I shrug. "Then what do we do?"

"We should hang with Ali and Rocky." Dove suggests.

I frown at that. "Wont they want to be together?"

Dove shakes her head. "Ali says she's fine with it, it's only one day."

"I guess." I say. "Where are they?"

"Park."

I nod, and get up. Dove follows me, and we exit Terry's. I hear her say bye to Phoenix. Something about him put me off.

We walk to the park. I put my hands in my pockets and walk silently. I didn't know what to say. It was easier to be rude to Dove, to insult her, but it was even harder to see her upset. I just felt really guilty.

It's crazy to think that only a day ago she had slapped me. It felt like time ago. And now we were having normal conversations.

Like normal people.

We finally reach the park. I spot Rocky and Alina sat on a bench together, and I tap Dove on the shoulder. She looks at me, and I point at them.

"ALI!" Dove shouts loudly. I jump up in shock.

"I think she can hear you." I grumble.

Dove snorts. "Okay, Mr Grumpy." I roll my eyes, and walk over to Rocky.

"Kite." Rocky says, dabbing me up.

"DOVEYYY!" Alina shouts at Dove, and I nearly roll my eyes again, until I realise Rocky is standing right in front of me and Alina might not be as nice as Dove.

Wait.

Did I just call Dove nice?

Alina looks at me, and then nods at me, although her eyes were still a bit stern. I mean, it was an improvement.
