It's 11 pm, and I find myself still wide awake, sitting in my room and pondering the ongoing commotion downstairs. I've been hearing the noise for the past four hours, and it's become a regular part of my household's alternate-day routine. I'm not sure of the reason behind it, but it seems to happen often.
I have made a conscious decision to keep my distance from them because every time I get involved, things only seem to escalate further. With their 18th anniversary approaching tomorrow, I fear it's going to be an absolute disaster.
As the unmistakable sound of the car engine signals my dad's departure, I understand that he won't be back until the next day. This means it's just a matter of time before my mom comes upstairs to unburden her stress on me.
The silence of my room was shattered by the disconcerting sounds of breaking objects and anguished cries coming from my parent's bedroom. A sense of fear gripped me as I envisioned what might happen if my mother burst into my room next, leaving a trail of destruction in her wake.
My eyes fell upon a beautifully wrapped box resting on my study table. It was intended to be a heartfelt anniversary gift for my parents, but now it seemed fated for a return. It felt like a recurring cycle - every time I carefully chose gifts for my parents, whether for birthdays, Mother's Day, or Father's Day, unforeseen circumstances led to their return.
The memory of their 15th anniversary resurfaced, marred by a family gathering that culminated in a heated confrontation over a delicate property issue, drawing the attention of our neighbors with its intensity.
It's been a couple of hours since I last heard any sound coming from my parent's room. With tentative steps, I cracked open my door and made my way downstairs to retrieve the cake from the fridge. I grabbed a fork and started indulging in the sweet treat, all the while tidying up the living room.
Once I finished cleaning, I made my way back upstairs and hesitantly opened my parent's room, and what I was met with was beyond shocking. The once beautiful wedding album lay torn into pieces, and the photo frames, once showcasing cherished memories, were now shattered and strewn across the room.
I cleaned the room carefully picked up the glass pieces, and threw them in the dustbin, making sure everything was in its secure place I went near my mom and placed the blanket around her securely. I took the photos with me and closed their door and after keeping the photos securely in my drawer I went to sleep.

Today is my first day at a new school. I'm feeling a mix of nervousness and excitement as I look forward to meeting new people. My previous school didn't offer a Humanities stream, so I had to switch schools. I got ready and went downstairs, where I saw my mom preparing my lunch for school.
I approached her slowly, feeling a surge of emotion as I wrapped my arms around her from behind. "Happy Anniversary, Maa!" I whispered, gently kissing her cheek.
