The Soldier breathed calmly as he entered the bridges again, remembering what had happened. They stepped over into the kingdom of Le Cerveau, as the kingdom of Cerebri waved them goodbye. The doors of the bridge opened and revealed it to them.
Le Cerveau was a kingdom of height and desolation. The landscape was full of tree stumps, chopped down for what the kingdom was full of. Dotting the landscape, these tall, cylindrical pillars stuck out from the ground, reaching far into the sky. Bookshelves were placed in a spiral pattern on them. They were full of wildly colored books with ornate and elegant, golden decorations on their backs. There was only one city in the kingdom, one which they could see obviously in the distance. Nothing was blocking their sight anyways. The city itself wasn't that discernable yet, but they could see the buildings getting taller the more they got to the center. They awed at the entirety of it. The Doctor noticed all the cut down stumps of trees. She pondered bout it. The group could see all the watermills along the river separating Cerebri and Le Cerveu, producing paper. They had started up again after the supply of wood had begun after their adventures in Cerebri, though something wasn't right.
"They're supposed to run at a higher capacity than this." The Nobleman thoughtfully said, "They're running at a quarter capacity in comparison to watermills of this size should be running. That is how it works within my city, at least."
"I reckon getting your supply cut off means you'll barely be working, no? Can't work on wood, if you have no wood." The Soldier said.
"No." The Scholar and The Nobleman said in unison, but only The Scholar continued, "If they were working slowly due to a lack of wood, the would be working harder now. The Nobleman is correct in his assessment."
The scholar began scribbling furiously in his little notebook, making drawings and notes of everything and everything he could, collecting all the knowledge he can. The Doctor too observed her surroundings. A few people were putting books on and taking them off of the spirals. Others were walking with axes towards the bridge as their workdays were beginning. The group got out of their ways, not wanting to disturb them. The Spy observed the people as they went about their ways, untrusting of them with their axes. The Soldier was still mentally recovering from crossing the bridge. The Nobleman was criticizing everything as the people did it.
"What now?" The Doctor asked.
"I suggest we ask the guards for directions to the castle. Once they see a noble man like myself, they must help us." The Nobleman grinningly suggested.
"Why would that make them help you? It's not as if they know you're noble. Not even we can trust that you truly are noble" The Spy countered. You could almost see the steam blowing out of The Nobleman's ears
"Do you have a better plan?" The Soldier demanded from The Spy.
The Spy just scoffed at him, signaling he didn't.
"I want to ask them a few questions anyway, so I'm approaching the locals anyway. If anyone here can ask for directions, I'll satiate my thirst for knowledge about this country and kingdom." The Scholar said with a glint in his eyes. He approached one of the locals putting books in the lower levels of the spires and began asking a thousand questions. The Spy scoffed at The Scholar as he began looking around for any clues on what to do next. The Nobleman also approached a local and began talking:
"Heed thee, dear peasant. I request of thee that thou telleth me where I must go."
The Doctor and The Soldier both looked at him in horror. The local looked in surprise and laughed at The Nobleman.
"Where must you go, oh my divine king." He mocked, though The Nobleman clearly didn't pick up on this.
"We seeketh thee who rules over this here kingdom." The Nobleman smiled smugly, his plan was succeeding, of course. The local thought for a moment before approaching one of the guards and whispering in the guards ear. The guard, in turn, whispered something in the locals ear. The local walked back and gave The Nobleman directions to the capital city, where the queen resides. The Soldier and The Doctor both looked at each other in amazement and disbelief. The Nobleman returned to them, a smug grin on his face.
