"Uhh, Viola? Care to tell me who this is?" The stern voice at the head of the table shot out cautiously giving me a slow look over before staring at V for answers, before getting scolded by his wife next to him for being so rude.
I looked on at V in amusement and slight disbelief that she hadn't told or asked her parents that I was coming to her house for a week or 2. Let's just say we interrupted dinner, and the moments before this were...very awkward.
"Enzo! You were meant to tell him!" She shot out angrily, snapping her neck down to the other end of her table at her only unbothered brother, who was eating his food and minding his own.
He quickly shot his head up after being hit on the back of the head by one of his brothers, and coming out of his little la la land. He looked quite nervous to say the least, the look on his face was priceless, almost making me chuckle.
Everyone turned to me suddenly.
Oops, guess I didn't do that chuckle mentally. I mentally face-palmed myself. Idiot
"This is Adeline, my best friend! Remember?" V sighed out rubbing her forehead , turning towards her parents with pleading eyes, that little shit always was the best manipulator. I nearly rolled my eyes at her antics.
They all nodded slowly, whilst V's mum stood up excitedly from her chair next to her husband. "Oh my god! This is the Adeline I've been hearing so much about? Why didn't you tell me she was coming here we would have prepared everything better for her!!"
"What, she's real?" I heard one of her other brothers mutter under his breath earning a smack on the back of his head, I think his name was Theo?
"Sis, you have friends?" One of V's brothers said in fake shock, hand on his heart, whilst the others snickered as she glowered at him.
"Have I seen any of your friends anywhere Leo?" She smirked looking around as if she was looking for them. "Oh that's right, you don't have anyy." She deadpanned. While her brother gave her the fattest side eye and the others snickered.
"Uhum"Her dad coughed at the head of the table and gave V a look to say she should continue explaining, making everyone snap their heads to him and out of their little bickering. Must say, that was quite entertaining to watch though.
"Right" she said. "Like somebody was SUPPOSED to tell you." She glared at Enzo one last time and sighed. "Adeline was supposed to come over for a couple of weeks to come see me and hang out before she goes to Russia." She said looking at her dad with pleading eyes once again, but I could see that he was a bit skeptical, which fair enough, he's never met me.
No matter how close I am to V, her family, not so much. So as I began to speak up, everyone looked over to me "V, it's fine, I can go to a hotel nearby I don't mind and I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable with my unplanned visit, plus we are going to see eachother like everyday I'm here anyways, don't stress" I said, tapping her shoulder and smiling at her before...
"Nonsense Adelina, you must stay! We would all love to have you here and get to know Viola's best friend" Mrs Romero spoke up a huge smile on her face, and nudging her husband's arm.
"Of course, Adelina, any friend of Viola's is welcome here, Viola will show you to your room after dinner and if you need anything else ask any of us, we will be happy to help" He gave me a nod and stoic expression, which I returned both to him, leaving him slightly shocked. Even though he didn't express it I could see it in his eyes.
In my eyes, amusement shined through as I replied. "Thank you Mr and Mrs Romero, you have been gracious hosts but that is unnecessary , I see that this has been very sudden and I wouldn't want to burden any of you" I smiled politely, before getting shushed by V's mum.
"Shush child, you're not burdening anyone, you are more than welcome here!" She smiled gently at me and gestured around the table, where I looked at V's brothers, who some gave me a smile and others nods, before finally looking at V, who was bouncing up and down in her seat.
"YESS!! Come on Addy let's go, I'll show you your room now." She dragged me up from my seat, not before I gave her parents a last thank you, for letting me stay and the dinner. "THANK YOU MOM, DAD!" She shouted whilst dragging me upstairs. "COME ON ADDY!" She said one more time making me jump and give one last look at the table, a 'help me' look, making some of them smirk and chuckle whilst we made our way upstairs.
This is going to be fun, I thought.
