She liked the way that the morning breeze caressed her face, liking the way that the morning fog cleared up around her, almost as if it was making a path for her.

The second Veronica arrived at the small town of Hawkins she had noticed the silence that covered the town whole. Almost as if no soul had ever lived there, and the more she walked around, certain ideas became closer to being true. No kids screaming in joy, no parents running around, chasing after them. Nothing, it was almost as eerie as the scary towns in slasher films she would watch at night, covering herself with her blanket for protection from its monsters.

Almost.

Somedays while she biked to school she'd see a small group of boys laughing, they'd laugh and talk loudly, very loudly. Causing disturbance as they passed, but to her it felt like home. She would finally feel as the eerie quiet shattered around her, somehow finding what most people would find annoying in a group of loudly obnoxious boys comforting.

A particular boy was missing, Will Byers. The boy in her science class, the boy who always had the right answer, raising his hand with a proud smile drawn on his pale face, the boy who Veronica admired and had begged countless of times to help her with her homework, Will of course always complied.

She was fond of him, he was fond of her, and Will had a warm and welcoming aura she was willing to embrace.

"Will? Hello earth to Will?" Flaring her hands in front of his face the boy finally snapped from his dazed state.

"Don't pay attention to this crap, they're just assholes." Taking and ripping the newspaper in half with the headline of Will's disappearance on it along with the words 'zombie boy' scribbled on it.

Shortly after her arrival at Hawkins hundreds of newspapers flooded the town during the months of winter and spring. 'The boy who came back to life' written in bold letters, as the first article on the daily paper.

William Byers was not the kind to talk, he retracted into his own self, staying quiet and observant, never seeking the attention other boys his age craved. He often seemed pensive, lost in deep thought. His serene demeanor brought a sense of calm to Veronica, bringing a calm buzz to the air.

She had approached him one Friday evening after class, begging him to help her with her science homework. They had been science partners for the semester and she had really hoped he would help her.

"Please, my mother will hang me with a wire if I don't pass this semester." Flaying her hands around hoping not to swat somebody in the face, her sneakers squeaking with every dragging step she took.
