"just because you despise your betrothed does not mean you should not look fabulous at your wedding reception."

lucky, always the ray of sunshine.

octavia was commonly struck by moments where she was elated to have her as a best friend– this was not one of them.

"i do not want to look fabulous. for all i care, i'll wear a potato sack and call it a day." octavia replied with an air of distaste, but allowed lucky to lead her and fabian through town without much complaint.

fabian cedar. he was much too young to be a general of an army by any standard, however since the hermanthium system did not involve itself in wars and conflicts, the adequacy of his service was not the main concern when he had gotten the position.

he was another one of octavia's spry group of friends, and this dreary afternoon just happened to catch him on a break.

"i'm still trying to understand what the hell is going on." fabian drawled dully, his russet hair cropped short at the sides under the instruction of the army's conductor, the fluffy mop perched atop his head however, was still intact. this was a blessing, as he would have looked horrendous if he was follically challenged.

"i left for training on venus minimus, and elowen gets engaged?"

"not by choice." octavia exhaled through her teeth, received with a slight grimace from fabian. he was one of the last people alive to refer to her as elowen, an appreciative sentiment that was slightly dampened by the fact it made it sound like she had aged considerably. perhaps it was a good thing that the bloodline was to die out.

"oh yes, of course." he conceded. "the day octavia willingly marries a man and is happy with it is the day eros ii and eros iii collide and cause a systematic downfall of all we know." lucky elbowed him, being the graceful soul she was.

"don't say that, your little ice princess lives within range of an esoteric implosion."

that shut fabian up, for now at least.

eros iii was a planet of contradictions, blending serene beauty with bustling activity and a little dash of land-soaking thunderstorms.

when it wasn't raining, which was a rare respite, the planet showcased its verdant charm. it certainly felt more like the old descriptions of earth than anywhere octavia had ever been. the market they wandered through was a hive of activity, nestled in the heart of a sprawling meadow that had been meticulously maintained to keep the natural beauty intact.
