"Flo!" I called out, looking around for my cousin.

I clutched my rapier's handle and goosebumps crept up my neck. In the distance, I heard a quiet wail and immediately I turned around.

"Shit." I said and rolled away just in time to see a Spectre fly where I just was.

I pulled my rapier out of my sheath and warded it off.

With my left hand, I took out my chain and threw it at the Spectre. It let out a ghastly wail and disappeared before reappearing behind me.

I whipped around, slashing and whirling the chains around. I was able to hold off the spirit until I stepped backwards.

My foot sunk into a hole and I cursed.

Fuck.

I looked up for a split second and my eyes caught the Spectre's. Instantly, my muscles felt heavy and I froze.

A screech arose from the ghost and it sped towards me, its dress billowing behind it. I flinched slightly as I silently counted,

10 feet.

8 feet.

6 feet.

4 feet.

2 fe-

Mere centimeters away from my face, the Spectre vanished in a poof of air.

Finally, the ghost-lock I had been under disappeared and I tugged my foot out of the hole, mud clinging to the boot.

"Hello, Lai. What's the news, darling? I've just saved your sorry arse so I deserve an explanation. Where are Mary and Zekiah?" Flo walked over to me, clutching a teddy bear in silver netting.

"Flo, I, uh, I need a place to stay." I muttered, my eyes trailing down to the dirt she had dug up. Flo's brows furrowed.

"Okay, Lai. But why'd you need me? Where's Maria? Did you run away?" Flo asked as she stared at me with confused eyes.

"A Type Two managed to get into the house last year. I took a train into London but tangled with the wrong crowd. Barely escaped." I whispered, shaking my head.

Flo winced and wrapped me in a hug. I hugged my cousin back and sighed shakily. She pulled away and told me, "You can stay on the Matilda until you find somewhere to live."

I nodded, wiping my eyes and huffing out a sigh.

"Thank you, Flo." I smiled at the girl in front of me.

She grinned and ruffled my hair.

"Don't worry 'bout it, Lei. Anything for my favorite cousin."

I'm sorry that it's so short. Send me comments or some ideas! I would love that!

Anyway, byeee!
