The Gryffindor common room was a cacophony of laughter and chatter as the group of students celebrated the end of their exams. The air was thick with relief and excitement, and a sense of freedom seemed to permeate the room. Remus Lupin sat on one of the worn, comfortable sofas near the fireplace, his nose buried in a book as usual. His tawny hair fell into his eyes, and he brushed it away absentmindedly.

Across the room, Sirius Black lounged in an armchair, his dark, unruly hair framing his handsome face. His grey eyes were fixed on Remus, a hint of a smile playing on his lips as he watched his friend. Despite the cheerful atmosphere, Sirius felt a pang of something uncomfortable. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but it gnawed at him nonetheless.

"Lupin! There you are!" a cheerful voice called out, pulling Remus from his book. He looked up to see Mary Macdonald and Lily Evans approaching, their faces alight with smiles.

"Hello, Mary, Lily," Remus greeted them, closing his book and giving them his full attention. "Finished celebrating already?"

"Not quite," Lily said, her green eyes twinkling. "But we thought we'd take a break and see what you were up to."

"Yeah, and we were wondering if you'd like to join us for a walk around the lake," Mary added, her tone slightly flirtatious. "It's such a beautiful evening."

Sirius's smile faded, his eyes narrowing slightly as he watched the interaction. Remus, oblivious to his friend's growing discomfort, smiled politely.

"That sounds lovely, but I was just about to start another chapter," Remus said, gesturing to his book.

"Oh, come on, Remus," Lily coaxed. "You can read anytime. The weather's perfect for a stroll."

"Yeah, come with us," Mary insisted, her hand resting on Remus's arm for a moment longer than necessary. "It'll be fun."

Remus hesitated, glancing down at his book, then back up at the girls. Before he could respond, Sirius stood up, unable to contain his irritation any longer.

"Actually, I was just about to suggest the same thing," Sirius said smoothly, crossing the room to stand beside Remus. "How about we all go for a walk?"

Lily raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by Sirius's sudden interest. "Sure, the more, the merrier."

"Great," Sirius replied, his tone a bit too cheerful. He extended a hand to Remus, helping him up from the sofa. "Come on, Moony, let's go."

Remus looked slightly puzzled but allowed Sirius to pull him to his feet. As they walked towards the portrait hole, Mary and Lily leading the way, Sirius's grip on Remus's arm tightened slightly.

"What was that about?" Remus whispered, glancing at Sirius.

"Nothing," Sirius muttered, not meeting his friend's eyes. "Just didn't want you to miss out on the fun."

Remus frowned but didn't press the issue. They stepped out into the cool evening air, the sky painted with hues of orange and pink as the sun began to set. The group made their way down to the lake, the girls chatting animatedly while Sirius and Remus walked in silence.

As they reached the water's edge, Mary and Lily began skipping stones across the surface, their laughter ringing out in the quiet evening. Remus watched them for a moment before turning to Sirius.

"Are you alright?" he asked softly, his eyes searching Sirius's face.

Sirius forced a smile. "Of course, why wouldn't I be?"

Remus sighed, not convinced but unwilling to push further. "Alright. Just let me know if you need to talk, okay?"

Sirius nodded, feeling a surge of affection for his friend. He knew he needed to get a grip on his jealousy, but it was harder than he expected. As the evening wore on, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was shifting between them, and he wasn't sure he liked it.
