As the Walküre members and Freyja continued their rehearsals, Luna excused herself, her mind set on a different kind of observation. She made her way to the aerial training area, a vast open space designated for flight simulations and live drills. Today, Hayate was scheduled for a mock combat session with Mirage, one of the top pilots and a formidable instructor. Luna, intrigued by Hayate's flying skills and their burgeoning connection, wanted to witness his prowess firsthand.
Positioning herself atop a nearby observation deck, Luna leaned against the railing, her eyes scanning the sky for signs of the duel. Soon, the distinctive roar of engines sliced through the air, and two Valkyries darted into view. Hayate's maneuvers were bold and inventive, a stark contrast to Mirage's calculated and precise techniques. The dance between them was thrilling, a testament to their skills and their machines.
However, midway through the session, Hayate's Valkyrie began to falter. Smoke billowed from one of the engines, a telltale sign of mechanical trouble. His aircraft lost altitude rapidly, spiraling towards a potentially catastrophic failure. Panic was evident in the control room's frantic communications, audible even from Luna's position.
"Stay with me, Hayate," she sang, her voice cutting through the chaos.
Without a second thought, Luna's instincts as a Walküre member kicked in. Believing in the power of her voice to soothe and inspire, she began to sing. Her melody was clear and uplifting, designed to be heard over the commotion and the distance. Luna focused all her energy on Hayate, hoping her voice would reach him, provide him with the calm and focus needed to regain control.
Miraculously, as her voice carried across the wind, Hayate's posture in the cockpit changed. He seemed to relax, his movements becoming smoother despite the dire mechanical warnings. Guided by the soothing strains of Luna's song, he managed to stabilize the Valkyrie, his hands steady as he regained altitude and re-engaged with Mirage. The duel resumed with Hayate now flying with renewed vigor, his maneuvers even more daring and precise. With a skillful feint and a rapid ascent, he outmaneuvered Mirage, tagging her plane with a simulated shot that marked the end of the exercise.
Hayate, fighting to steady his Valkyrie, heard her voice and felt an inexplicable sense of calm wash over him. He managed to regain control and safely land his craft. Stepping out, he immediately sought out the source of the voice that had guided him.
He saw her then, standing with Walkure, her Black-blue hair shimmering under the lights. There was something about her presence that was magnetic. Gathering his courage, he approached her.
"Hey, thanks for the assist up there," Hayate said, his eyes meeting hers.
Luna turned and gave him a confident smile. "No problem. You looked like you needed a hand."
Freyja bounced over, her usual enthusiasm evident. "You were amazing, And you too, Hayate. Seriously, you guys were great together!"
Mirage, who had been observing from a distance, joined them with a more reserved demeanor. "Good job, everyone," she said, her gaze flickering between Hayate and Luna.
Luna noticed the tension in Mirage's posture and decided to lighten the mood. "So, Hayate, do you always fly like that, or were you just trying to impress us?" she teased.
Hayate laughed, a genuine sound that made Luna's heart skip a beat. "I guess you'll have to stick around to find out."
Luna's smile widened. "Oh, I plan to."
As they walked back to the ship, Hayate found himself drawn to Luna's boldness. She was different from anyone he'd met, and he couldn't help but be intrigued.
"So, are you going to tell me your name?" he asked, his tone light but earnest. He had felt a connection during the mock battle, a sense of being understood without words, all through the medium of her song. Now, he wanted to know more about this mysterious member of Walküre whose voice had literally lifted him from a potential fall.
Luna paused, a slight smile playing on her lips as she looked up at the increasingly vibrant hues of the twilight sky. "It's Luna," she finally said, turning her gaze back to Hayate. "Luna Aurelia". And you're Hayate, right? Hayate Immelmann?"
"That's me," he replied with a grin, his earlier formality melting away into a more comfortable demeanor. "Seems like you know a bit about me already."
Luna laughed softly, nodding. "I've heard a few things. You've made quite the impression since you joined as a pilot. And after today, I can see why."
They walked in comfortable silence for a few moments, each processing the day's events. Hayate glanced at Luna, intrigued by her presence and the ease with which she carried herself. There was an undeniable grace to her movements, much like her voice, which still echoed in his mind.
"So, Luna," Hayate began, breaking the silence, "what brought you to Walküre? It seems like we both find a kind of freedom in what we do—I, in the skies with my Valkyrie, and you, through your songs."
"where did you learn to sing like that?" he asked, genuinely curious.
"Lots of practice and a bit of natural talent," Luna replied with a wink. "But if you really want to know, maybe I'll show you some time."
Hayate grinned. "I'd like that."
Mirage, trailing behind, felt a pang of jealousy but kept it to herself. She admired Hayate's skill and kind nature but struggled with expressing her feelings. Freyja, on the other hand, was openly affectionate, often playfully vying for Hayate's attention.
That night, as Luna lay in her bunk, she replayed the day's events in her mind. She was falling for Hayate, but she knew Freyja and Mirage also had feelings for him. It was a complicated situation, but she was determined to follow her heart. "You've got this, Luna," she whispered to herself. "Just be yourself and everything will fall into place."
But even as she resolved to stay focused, the memory of Hayate's grateful smile stayed with her, warming her heart. The path ahead was fraught with challenges, but she was ready to face them, no matter what. She was Luna Aurelia, and she would make her mark on this world.
