Robin Buckley x Sara Byers
Sara stood by the window, staring out at the city that had become her home. The early evening light casts long shadows across the room, and the muffled sounds of traffic filtered in through the open window. It was a familiar symphony, one she had grown to love over the past few years. But tonight, it felt different. Tonight, it was the soundtrack to an ending. She took a deep breath, trying to steady her trembling hands. In just a few hours, she would be on a plane, leaving behind everything she knew. Everything she loved. And that included Robin. The thought of Robin brought a fresh wave of tears to her eyes. She blinked them away, forcing herself to focus on the task at hand. Her suitcase lay open on the bed, half-packed, with clothes strewn everywhere. She picked up a sweater, one of Robin's favorites, and pressed it to her face, inhaling the faint scent of her cologne. It was a small comfort, but it did little to ease the ache in her chest.
"Sara?" Robin's voice called from the doorway. Sara turned, her heart clenching at the sight of her girlfriend. Robin stood there, her tall frame leaning against the doorjamb, arms crossed over her chest. Her eyes were red and puffy, evidence of the tears she had shed. It was a rare sight; Robin was always the strong one, the one who held it together. Seeing her like this made Sara's resolve waver. "Hey," Sara said softly, trying to muster a smile. Robin stepped into the room, her expression pained. "Are you really going to do this?" Sara's smile faltered. She set the sweater down and walked over to Robin, taking her hands in her own. "I have to, Robin. You know that." Robin pulled her hands away, her eyes flashing with a mix of anger and sorrow. "No, you don't have to. You're choosing to. You're choosing to leave me."
Sara's heart broke at the accusation in Robin's voice. "It's not like that. This house... it's a once-in-a-lifetime chance my mom says. I've seen her struggle too much to fight with her."
"And what about us? Haven't we struggled too much as well?" Robin's voice cracked, and she looked away, blinking back tears. Sara reached out, gently cupping Robin's cheek. "We have. And I love you more than anything. But this is something I have to do with my family. I need them to be safe from whatever else is out there." Robin closed her eyes, leaning into Sara's touch. For a moment, they stood there in silence, the weight of their impending separation hanging heavy in the air. Finally, Robin pulled away, taking a step back. "I don't understand how you can just leave," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.Sara felt a tear slip down her cheek. "It's not easy for me either, Robin. But sometimes, you have to take risks, even if it means leaving behind the people you love." Robin shook her head, her jaw clenched. "I can't believe this is happening. I thought... I thought we were forever." Sara's heart ached at the pain in Robin's eyes. "So did I. But life doesn't always work out the way we plan." Robin turned away, wrapping her arms around herself as if to ward off the hurt. "I don't know how I'm supposed to just let you go." Sara stepped closer, wrapping her arms around Robin from behind. "You don't have to let me go. We'll always have what we shared. And who knows? Maybe one day our paths will cross again." Robin's shoulders shook with silent sobs, and Sara held her tighter, feeling her own tears fall freely. They stood there for what felt like an eternity, clinging to each other as if trying to memorize every detail, every touch.
Finally, Robin turned in Sara's arms, burying her face in her shoulder. "Promise me you won't forget about us." Sara pressed a kiss to Robin's temple. "I could never forget you. You'll always be a part of me." Robin pulled back, her eyes searching Sara's face. "I love you."
"I love you too, you're my best friend, I'll love you forever" Sara whispered, her voice breaking. They kissed then, a desperate, tear-stained kiss that spoke of all the love and all the pain they felt. It was a kiss that held their memories, their dreams, and their heartbreak. When they finally pulled apart, Sara knew it was time. She stepped back, wiping her tears away. "I have to finish packing." Robin nodded, her expression resigned. "Do you need any help?" Sara shook her head.
"No, I think I need to do this on my own." Robin lingered in the doorway, watching as Sara resumed packing. "I'll be in the living room if you need me."Sara nodded, not trusting herself to speak. She heard Robin's footsteps retreating down the hall, and the sound of the TV being turned on. She focused on her suitcase, methodically folding and packing her clothes. Each item she placed inside felt like another piece of her heart being torn away. When she was finally done, she zipped up the suitcase and looked around the room. It felt empty now, devoid of the warmth and love that had once filled it. She took a deep breath, trying to summon the courage to face Robin one last time. She found Robin sitting on the couch, staring blankly at the TV. Sara walked over and sat down beside her, reaching for her hand. Robin squeezed it, her eyes never leaving the screen. "It's time," Sara said softly. Robin nodded, her grip tightening. "I know." They sat there in silence for a moment, holding on to each other. Finally, Sara stood up, pulling Robin to her feet. "Will you walk me to the door?"
Robin nodded again, following Sara to the front door. Sara picked up her suitcase, feeling the weight of it both physically and emotionally. She turned to Robin, her heart breaking all over again at the sight of her tear-streaked face. "I'm going to miss you so much," Sara said, her voice trembling. Robin wrapped her arms around Sara, holding her close. "I'm going to miss you too." They stood there for a long moment, neither wanting to let go. Finally, Sara pulled back, her heart shattering with each step she took toward the door. "I love you," she said one last time, her voice barely above a whisper. "I love you too," Robin replied, her voice breaking. With a final, lingering look, Sara opened the door and stepped out into the hallway. She walked down the corridor, her heart aching with every step. When she reached the elevator, she turned back, hoping for one last glimpse of Robin. But the door to their apartment was closed, and she knew that this was truly the end.
As the elevator doors closed, Sara leaned against the wall, letting the tears flow freely. She knew that this was the right decision, but that didn't make it any less painful. She was leaving behind the love of her life, and the future they had planned together. But she also knew that sometimes, the hardest choices were the ones that led to the greatest growth. As the elevator descended, Sara took a deep breath, steeling herself for the journey ahead. She didn't know what the future held, but she was determined to face it head-on. And no matter where life took her, she would always carry a piece of Robin with her, in her heart. The ride to the airport was a blur of tears and aching silence. Sara watched the city pass by outside the cab window, each familiar landmark a painful reminder of the life she was leaving behind. When the cab pulled up to the terminal, she paid the driver and stepped out, her suitcase feeling like a lead weight in her hand.
Inside the airport, the bustle of travelers and the constant announcements over the loudspeakers provided a stark contrast to the quiet anguish she felt. She checked in, went through security, and found her gate, all on autopilot. Each step felt surreal, as if she were moving through a dream. Finally, she sat down in the waiting area, staring out at the planes on the tarmac. Her mind drifted back to the first time she and Robin had met. It had been at a friend's party, and Sara had been immediately drawn to Robin's infectious laugh and easy smile. They had talked for hours that night, discovering a shared love of art and music, and by the end of the evening, Sara had known that she had found someone special.
Their relationship had been a whirlwind of joy and passion. They had explored the city together, spent lazy Sundays in bed, and built a life filled with love and laughter. And now, it was all coming to an end.Sara wiped away a tear, pulling out her polaroids. She looks at the pictures, pictures of her and Robin. Each image was a snapshot of their happiness, a testament to the love they had shared. She paused on a photo of the two of them at the beach, their arms wrapped around each other, smiles wide and carefree. It was one of her favorite memories. As she looked at her bag, she saw a letter. It was from Robin. Sara's heart ached at the sight of the letter. She opens it, her fingers trembling.

RobinShe closed it and put it away, taking a deep breath. She knew that this was the right decision, but it didn't make it any less painful.
