I walked into work early in the morning, adhering to the strict policy, and caught the eye of my boss, Velvet. She stared at me for a bit, probably just zoning out. As I walked past her, her gaze seemed to follow me, which was a bit creepy. I shrugged it off and continued with my day, ignoring Velvet's odd behavior.

Later that day, I was called into Velvet's office. Walking down the desolate hallways, I straightened my shirt and gently knocked on her door. "Come in," she said. I opened the door and closed it behind me. Velvet was at her desk and motioned for me to sit in the chair opposite her.

"The reason I asked you to come to my office is because I wanted to talk to you," she began. Trying to appear mature, I asked, "What would you like to talk about, ma'am?"

"I'd like to talk to you about a raise," Velvet said. "You're overworking yourself, and if you're going to be working more, you should get paid more. What do you say?"

I was a bit confused but then realized she had a point. "A raise? I wouldn't mind a raise, but how much more are we talking?"

Velvet chuckled slightly, which was rare for her. "Considering your position, you'd get paid 10% more. It's a good deal."

I thought about it for a second. It was indeed a good deal, and I was willing to take it. "I'll take it, but I should get back to work. I don't want to end up doing overtime again."

She gave me a soft smile and nodded. "You do love your work, don't you?"

I started to get up and move to the door. "I guess I do," I said with a chuckle, leaving and closing the door behind me.

**Velvet's POV**

I watched her leave and immediately jumped into action. I had failed to confess my feelings; instead, I ended up giving her a raise. Frustrated, I ran to my brother's office and barged in. "Veneer, I need help," I blurted out, causing him to jump.

"Velvet, how many times have I told you not to scare me like that? I swear you're going to give me a heart attack."

I looked him in the eyes and said, "Bro, chill out. I'm just freaking out."

Veneer's face softened. He got up from his chair, walked to his couch, and patted the spot next to him. "Sis, tell me what's going on."

"I like Y/N, and I want to ask them out, but I don't know what to do," I confessed.

"Y/N? Our Y/N?" he asked.

"Of course, our Y/N, you dipshit," I snapped.

Veneer chuckled. "That was a dumb question. Just go for it, Vel. I don't want you to regret not trying. Just tell them how you feel."

I took a deep breath and looked at Veneer. "Thank you. I'll try, but if it doesn't go well, I'll be coming back here, okay?"

"Okay," he agreed.

**The Next Day - Y/N's POV**

I was walking into work when Velvet stopped me. "Hey, Y/N, do you think you could stay later today? Just an hour, and I'll pay you extra."

"Sure, I don't see why not," I replied. Velvet smiled and walked away. I wondered why but didn't think much of it after a while.

**Later - Still Y/N's POV**

As the extra hour started, I was called into Velvet's main room, not her office, which was confusing since she never let others in there. I gently knocked on her door. "Come in," she said. I opened the door and closed it behind me.

"Hello, ma'am," I greeted her. She smiled and got up from her bed, looking stunning. "Follow me," she said, and I followed her to her balcony.

"I don't believe I've been here before," I remarked.

Velvet chuckled. "Yeah, you haven't."

"Why was I called to your main room? I know you don't allow staff in here," I asked, sensing something was off.

"Come here," she said, leaning on the balcony railing. I joined her and looked out at the sunset. It was beautiful, with clouds making it look like candy or ice cream.

"I wanted to talk to you," Velvet said. "Like, an actual talk."

"An actual talk? What do you mean by that?" I asked, confused.

"I want to talk to you like friends," she clarified, laughing at my confusion.

"Well, what did you want to talk about?" I asked.

Taking a deep breath, Velvet looked at me, then at the sunset, and back into my eyes. "I... I like you. More than an employee, more than a friend. I know this is sudden, and we barely know each other, but I'd like to ask you on a date."

I was baffled. Did my ears deceive me? Velvet was asking me out. She looked into my eyes, searching for any sign of denial.

"You're not playing with me, right?" I asked.

"I have no reason to lie to you. I wouldn't play with you like this," she said sincerely.

"Yes, I'd like to go on a date with you," I replied, feeling like the happiest person in the world.

Relief washed over Velvet's face. "So, tomorrow at 8 a.m.?"

"Yeah," I smiled at her, and she smiled back. I couldn't believe my luck. Life is unexpected, and sometimes, you just have to wait for your luck to turn.
