Juliette sits in the corner of the room with the sweet glass of wine and stare at the people in the room. Unlike the start of the night, near the end, or the beginning for many; the children in the room were slowly falling asleep or playing board games.
Juliette met many people in her life, most of them ended up disappointing her. The amount of people who hadn't let her down could be counted in one hand.
Unconsciously, she reaches for the pin on her head.
Something tells her she may lose another one on her list.
When she hears a soft laugh, her sight steer towards Nina. Juliette can't say she trusted Nina. She wants to trust her, but with all the disappointment in her life, she couldn't come to accept her easily.
If anything-
Her sight steer towards Crystal who walk into the room.
She trust Crystal Martinez's words more.
Afterall, sweet words are like candy - fake.
"Juliette," Nina walks up to her and smile, "Is everything okay?"
Juliette wants to ask Nina why she sent her to Crystal and Joshua without telling her about Crystal's history. But instead of asking, she tighten the glass in her hand and nod, "I'm okay." Even if Nina forgotten to tell her about her niece nasty personality, it's not like Juliette can fight back considering how she's a bastard child.
Nina tilts her head, and her lips parted but was soon disturbed by her oldest son. Joshua walks into the room with a tablet, and one by one, the young boys gather around it.
Juliette tilts her head to get a closer look, but she couldn't tell who was on the screen.
Nina exhales, "So, that's where he went all night." Nina looks at Juliette, "Boys, am I right?"
"I don't exactly understand," Juliette chuckles awkwardly.
"Hailey!" Theodore screamed.
Instantly, Juliette understood Nina's statements. She smiles softly at Joshua's puppy love face as he talks to Hailey.
Steadily, the sweetness turn sour as she recalls her youth. Unlike Joshua, Juliette spends most of her youth hopping from country to country with her mother. And as she gets older, she spent most her days at her home alone.
If she isn't alone, she'd constantly looking over her shoulder to make sure her mother's lovers doesn't target her next.
Days like that, Juliette wishes she was born ugly.
Then, Gabriel appears and she thought she had the love Joshua had until her bad luck hits him.
Maybe Gabriel isn't wrong for cheating on her. He deserves better.
"Juliette?" Nina calls for her again.
Juliette smiles.
Nina exhales softly before she stroke Juliette's cheek, "You know, you can tell me anything right?"
Juliette nods.
